Title: Passenger Footpeg Question.
Post by: Rich Pleines on February 17, 2009, 04:37:14 PM
I need to lengthen the mounting bolt on the passenger foot pegs [92 FJ] to accommodate Givi mounting hardware and an aftermarket exhaust. I looked around to see if a suitable replacement was available as the stock foot peg mounting bolt appears to be welded to the bracket. Do I need to drill out the bolt and replace it with a carriage type bolt or is there another solution? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Great site by the way! Thanks, Rich

Hey Rich,

I had the exact same issue on my 92 to accomodate Givi hardware.  I ended up grinding/drilling the welded bolt off the base of the passenger peg and replacing with a regular bolt of suitable lengh. I had to grind down the head of the replacement bolt just enough to allow adequate clearance for the retraction of the passenger peg.  Nothing fancy.....but it has been installed for several years without problems.

Perry thanks for the info. I thought that might be the case. I was able to get the Givi hardware on a few years ago by only grinding a bit off the inside off the footpeg bracket. I need the extra length now for the exhaust cans. I purchased a used set of stainless steel cans a while back and they must have been for a different model as the exhaust mounting bracket does not line up with the exhaust mount but does with the footpeg bracket. Thanks again for the reply. Off to the garage I go to find my saftey glasses. Rich
