I actually posted this question in another thread, but got no takers, so figured id try with its own thread.
some of the blokes on the uk xjr websites seem to think that the fj12 cams are the better of all the stock cams available for our engine format.
but from what I've seen, ok I cant account for duration figures in this instance, there are only two different specifications, the California spec 7.7mm lift cams, and the uk spec 8mm lift ones, and either spec can be installed in fj 11's or 12's, and xjr 12's or 13's, depending on the destination of the machine from new.
some of these blokes have gone to the trouble of installing fj12 heads complete on their xjr's, but with no specific reasons as to why other than essentially a rumour that they are better, as far as the uk xjr sites are concerned anyway.
so, can anyone tell me, are there any reasons to believe that fj12 heads and/or cams are superior to those of the 11's and/or 13's?
from what I've seen there are good aftermarket camshaft options anyway, Webb cams for instance, with anything up to 10mm lift, with a 9mm one that I've eyed off for while, if I were ever to build that street/strip 1349, one day, maybe, nah prolly not, oh, maybe, yeah, nah.
any one know much about the camshaft specs of fj's?

No diff from 1250 to 1200 or 1100. If there was the legends be all over it. Racers want all they can get. But if you slot the cam sprocket and minipulate that a bit you'll gain pretty big gains.

As Bob has already stated...there is no difference.
Here is this topic covered on an XJR forum a few years back; http://www.yamahaxjrownersclub.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=44780&hilit=camshaft (http://www.yamahaxjrownersclub.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=44780&hilit=camshaft)
