Just heard on TV 5 min. ago: According to CalTrans, Angeles Crest Highway, Angeles Forest Highway, and Big Tujunga Canyon are set to reopen on Monday, 11/30! :yahoo:
For those not in the LA area, these are 3 of the best canyon roads in the NE LA area; they've been closed for repairs since the fires about 3 months ago.
WooHoo Steve, Go get'em. :yahoo:
I had no idea that these routes were closed that long. Down here in San Diego, they closed the mountains when we had our fires, but not that long. However, a few roads around here are still chewed up from all the firetrucks and such. So be careful your first ride out.

I would expect the roads to be a little slippery with all the ash blowing around. There is a lot of ash at my house and I am about 8 miles the Crest. The station fire got real close and was evacuated for 3 days. The next few rains will be a real mess with fine grain of the ash making a slippery slurry that turns your bike black. But it won't stop me from getting a ride in. Kookaloo!
Hey, Mark,
Likely I'll be tiptoeing my way up there midday Monday just to see how it is - I'll post a report (just so Marsh can move the whole thread to 'Ride Reports'(http://i49.tinypic.com/169kl6x.jpg)).
Cheers, and Happy T-day to all! (http://i35.tinypic.com/28a1gqx.gif)
Call me, we can provide a combined trip report and I will bring my real (non-Blackberry) camera. I'll even buy you lunch at Newcomb's Ranch if they are open.
Oh, OK, Mark... I'd assumed you'd be working... :good:
Steve, I typed before I engaged my brain. Too happy in thinking that the roads are now open. :yahoo:
I will be working. :dash1:
Have fun and report back.
