I should prolly start by saying I personally don't actually own an fj, I have an xjr and its not 1349cc either, yet, but we do have an 85fj11 in the family, belonged to my brother actually who died in a road accident in 94, so the fj aint goin nowhere, might even get the chance to recon it one day, prolly only after pryin it from the old mans cold dead hands though.
but as im sure you all know the xjr and fj share the same engine format, along with the legends car series racers, which is a great source of tuning info.
basically my bike has an internally bog stock engine, ive run 11.05sec with it at the local drags, and now that ive fitted pod filters, im hoping to get her into the 10's this season.
she's a multi purpose bike, touring, scratching, drags and track days, and sure its not as fast as a lot of bikes out there but it gives me something to occupy myself with mechanically, which is my main hobby really, occupying myself mechanically.
anyway I like what ive read on this site so I figured id see if your prepared to accept an xjr owner, based on engine sympathy I spose.
I like tech talk, and maybe one day ill put together that hot 1349 donkey that I dream about, no promises.
cheers all.
kris.
Awesome intro dude!!!,
Welcome Kris ! XJR, FJ... All in the family :good2: There is a few things I wish I had off an XJR... Chime in anytime.
George
For many of us in the U.S. that yern for a Factory Naked FJ. We drool over XJR's. Welcome to the group.
Most of the Australian members are on the east and southern coasts. If you ever find your self and your XJR on that side of the country, look a few of them up.
Fred
cool fella's, cheers.
yeah a lot of xjr riders (Europe based mainly though, not too many blokes seems to muck about with em much down here) go for usd forks and all sorts, but im not sure theres much point to all that, an xjr is never going to keep up with a modern sports bike, rider skill aside, but they are a great everyday bike with plenty of more power (fun) options.
other than fitting the pods, my latest thing is getting a blue spot calliper fitted to the rear, all the xjr13's came with them on the front, which many of you will know where equivalent of what the r1's had at the time, but it was only after they moved to the 37mm carbs in o4 that we got them stock on the rear as well.
the stock mount suites the larger axle diameter of the day so I just need to get a bush made and I can plum it all up.
I've got braided lines and a coerce fork brace that I haven't got around to fitting yet, its kinda dependant on whether I wont to remove the forks and replace the dust seals and polish em while im at it, which is dependent on whether I wont to fit my clip-ons above or below the top clamp, which is dependent on whether my new risers will allow me to put them on top, and wether I like them up top of below, the clip-ons are just for helping to lower the centre of gravity at the drags, and maybe track days too I spose.
so its up in the air a bit, ahh, one step at a time. :drinks:
Kris
Hello Kris, sounds like an awesome ride you got. I'm sure we'd all enjoy some pictures of it. Very sorry about your Brother...I've lost alot of dear ones including my Mom this year...whew. At least we can still enjoy life and ride as our own personal outlets and keep our sanity in check! Take care my friend, welcome aboard! Charley.
pics, dam straight I got pics, lots a pics, I got pics comin out the wazoo, youll be sic of my pics before you know it :good2:
ill get some up soon
G`day Kris, sorry I missed your original intro, so I guess this is a belated welcome from a fellow Aussie. There are two or three active members in the Perth area (incl WestOzXJR as Arnie mentioned in a different topic). In fact one Perth member took home the coveted Holly Graille of FJ Rally Trophys in our March National Rally this year! (Bozo). (There`s about 8 or so forum names across WA from memory, most being happy lurkers).
National Rally is in Grafton NSW next year. (If ya opt to fly we`ll look after ya from any airport.)
Enjoying your posts and hope to ride over there one day. (Voyager is doing an around oz trip this Xmas)
Those times from the drags tells me your the go to man for FJ tuning in the West. :drinks:
cheers General,
westozxjr, ill have to look them up, I'm on yahoo's aussiexjr, me and about 3 other blokes actually use it, sometimes.
theres absolutely stacks of xjr's over here, most bog stock from what eve seen, not that mines over the top.
mate, when it comes to tuning, I'm an open book, I'm more interested in what I can learn from others, I got no probs with letting peeps know what I've been up to, just the boltons really, I'm just trying to see what I can get out of a basically stock xjr cycle, with an internally bog stock engine.
mines done 130k now and the head has never been off, it had done over 110k when I ran the 11.0's.
the 11.0's were done with the airbox in and running a k&n, now I've got the rpm uni pods fitted and I'm still fiddling with the tune up a bit, and will be purchasing needles and pilots from rpm before heading back to the drags this summer, hopefully ill get her into the tens this time around.
do you get any xjr's at the fj rally?
cheers

I know one year Vic was coming but got caught up, but we get a few mixtures incl XS, FJR, even a Suzuki or two and looks like a few Dukes this year. Many don`t line up for the photoshoot cause they`re bashfull (or broken down) but here`s a video of models that lined up this year. https://vimeo.com/89188154 (Shit it`d be great ta see your XJR in the next line up) :drinks:

cheers Gen, ill keep that in mind, what are the dates for next years bash?
the ole xjr, she's a bit rougher closer up, seems to get a new chip every time I take the tank off, which is fairly often, but she's ridden and not hidden, and cleans up ok.
the lairy yellow stripes aside, she's a pretty stock looking bike, but that's what I'm going for really, bit of a sleeper, with some surprises under the covers.
although I might like to have a stove hot 1349 put in her one day, my mandate since purchasing this bike has basically been, stock cycle, particularly major hardware wise, and internally bog stock engine, and lets see what I can get out of it.
I'm actually starting to close in on the end of this chapter with the bike, depending on if I want to do things like dyna ignition, flat slides, nitrous, but honestly, I'm not sure I can be bothered going down those paths, ill just have to see how bored I get after I've finished tuning for the pods at the drags. :unknown:
