Hear Ye, Hear Ye, with much anticipation it is announced here that our next FJ Manshed Day will be graciously hosted by Glenn, (Voyager), at his sprawling ranch located in Park Ridge South. We have set a date of Saturday Sept 9th, although if this is too soon, Sat Sept 20th is the other option.
Glenn has offered - 4 bay shed, large selection of tools, can dispose of any oil and filters, will supply a bbq with snags and salads. You can bring your own steaks if you wish , He will also supply some light beer and soft drink.
Glenns address is 27 Dalkeith Court Park Ridge South , He is on an acre block so an over night tent site is available and welcome , and yes power is available. If we can get some numbers organised and confirmation of the preferred date that would be a big help. So, if you want to pull your sticking forks apart, sync your fluttery carbs, mount that new spin on oil filter, or just sit around and shoot the breeze, BE THERE! https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/27+Dalkeith+Ct,+Park+Ridge+South+QLD+4125/@-27.7291303,153.0404509,17z/data= (https://www.google.com.au/maps/place/27+Dalkeith+Ct,+Park+Ridge+South+QLD+4125/@-27.7291303,153.0404509,17z/data=) For those that came to the Manshed Day at my place last year, Glenn is 5 mins down the road.
We always have a good time at these days, and we may have another new owner (Stevo) who has just purchased an FJ11 turn up as well hopefully. As usual please reply here and we'll get it on the go,
:good2: :drinks: :good2: :drinks:

Yahoo! Either date suits me!
Ummmm.....might bring a trailer full of me bits!
:drinks:
OH YES I'll be there too :drinks: :good: :nyam2:
Another Manshed day!!! :dance2: Love these get togethers but Sept 9th I'll be imitating a beached whale somewhere in Phuket Thailand, :good2: so the 20th would suit me better.
Tony.
Hi everyone, Steve here, or some call me 'Bender'??. well I put my hand up for any of those dates.I look forward to meeting up with some fellow FJ nuts, well i guess you could call me an FJ 'washer' as i'm not quite qualified to call myself a full 'nut' just yet, hehehe. Well anyway, after my 1100 got warmed up, it would start to miss a bit on accelleration until it got to 2000 rpm then it would take off. as well at idle it sounded like it was running on three cylinders. But then the next day, I'd start it , and it would be fine for a day or two, or until it got really warm. Do you guys know of any temp guage setups available, I do have one of those point and click temp guages that mechanics use, but what part of the engine should I point at and then what temp . should it be at? Well anyway, yesterday, I put a new set of plugs, new oil and filter, it made a difference at idle and start up for sure. And Im pretty sure that I worked out the problem as the plugs were pretty old by the looks. So, if anything, I'd love to get my front forks done. I guess in the meantime I should get all the seals and stuff for it hey? Plus if there is anyone good with tuning carbs, or maybe recommending jet size if I were to install the pods from RPM. Also, I am probably going to get the oversize valves from RPM as well as the stainless headers and the rear shock. I will probably geat that part that makes the gear selector alot more noticable. Gee if I had the money I'd buy...............................................! Well anyway guys, hope to see ya at the Manshed, ciao, from Bender

And I thought it was Kenny who had a problem with dates. :sorry:
Saturday 20th September 2014 works for me.
Hey Ken you coming .... Its been a while.
Say What? Who told me The 9th was Saturday?. Make it Sat 6TH Sept or the 20th. Will need to decide soon on the date.
Going on the replies so far we might try to lock in the 20th.
Hey Stevo, where abouts in Brisbane are you? Probably a good idea to start with a carb sync and maybe do your forks, (RPM valves, Racetech springs, would probably need the rebuild kit as well). Makes a huge difference. The oil cooler kit and spin on filter mod as well is definatley worth it in our summers, I think I will give you a call,
gdaY ray, count me in for either day, weather permitting naturally.
ken
Ok everyone, just a small update, we'll make it Sat 20th September. Will give us enough time if anyone needs to order things etc. I'll get confirmed numbers before then so Glenn can arrange the topless barmaids etc
Not sure if I can make it - may be over in WA for work.....but if I'm in town will be there.
Cheers
Harvy
Hi ray, sorry i missed your call mate. Yeah the 20th is good for me. If i just wanted to change the fork oil for the moment, do you guys have one of the tools for undoing the top cap of the fork? if so could you let me know, saves me buying one for now, i will eventually make one but cant seem to find a supplier that has the right size as they usually go on the inside diameter, yes i did see that 18mm is the size to ask for but even then, depending on who made it, the outside size can be 10mm difference. I have found a socket online for $20 with a 27mm hex and a 3/4 inch drive. My local tradetools has a KInchrome part that is over $50 for deep impact, but cant seem to find any normal in an actual store. I guess i'll end up buying the Kinchrome part. Well anyways, Ray, to answer your question, I live in Chermside well at the moment. I feel like a change in lifestyle, so I might be looking at buying some land out woop woop somewhere, ( I bet thats got to be the first time somebodys ever written the words 'woop woop' in a FJ owners forum) and building my own place slowly. well thats the dream anyway. One thing that would be on the top of the list would be to build a decent double garage like a titan or something, that way I'd have a roof over my head while I built the house. One side I could live in the other side would be decked out in all my tools and a bikestand and maybe a lathe. So when I win the lotto and make it happen, you would all be welcome to drop in sometime on your travels. Well hope to see you guys at the Manshed, adios amigios

Welcome aboard Bender. Sounds like you`ve been lurking awhile, so you`d know what a great lot of blokes play with the FJ (amongst other things!).
I love the name of your Brissie Company. Really looking forward ta catching up with you at Glenn`s place. :drinks:
I'll bring my Monkey made fork cap remover and the morgan carb tune.
See you'll there
Darran
Hey Darran, have you got 4 fj's? I thought you had 3. That makes you a 2 star general. Lots of generals up your way. see you on the 20th..

I start a ride (Gold Coast to Canberra and back) on Sept 10th so I'll be packing on the 9th. For ManShed Day September 20th suits me.

Easy job to do Stephen. And whatever you do you don't need to pay Yamaha $300.00 to do your fork seals. You can get either the fork seal kit or the full fork rebuild kit from Randy (RPM), plus new springs if needed much cheaper, and its not a hard job.
Will be good to catch up Stainesy, another Canberra ride? That must be a yearly event that you do. :good2: Tomorrow I'm going to finish off my shortened dog bones, and bolt them back on and see how it is. They are not the prettiest formed pieces of metal, and I might end up making another set yet. ( It is a pig of a job cutting 6mm Galv plate with a 4" grinder )

Hey, Ray, what happened? First I was making you freebies, then your mate with the plasma cutter was making them and now your hacking them out with a small angle grinder, what's next, making them with a Dremel? You should have stuck with the first offer!
I guess somewhere in the mix you've figured out or been told the importance of the holes being exactly equal c to c measurement. Clamp or tack them together and drill both pieces at the same time.
Don't worry about how they look, you can't see them, I didn't even paint mine.
Are you using the thin 1.0mm cutting discs? If not, get some, then dress them up on the bench grinder. Don't get too fussed about the appearance, as long as there's enough meat around the holes, that's all that matters.
Photo's when finished so we know you're not bullshitting, please.
Noel
Nah, I knew the Dremel was going to take a while, :rofl2: Yep, after the shapes were cut out with the grinder and 1mm cutoff wheel, they were clamped together and drilled as one with a drill press, (Glenns) so I know that bit is right. I just can't get nice rounded ends on them as I don't have enough metal left, but there are no sharp angles to speak of. Will get some piccies this weekend.
If these don't work out, stage 2 is to say stuff it, and order some Soupys,

Ray, don't get sucked into believing these are a precision piece. As long as the holes are equal c to c and there's enough meat around them, the rest is cosmetic.
These ones were cut freehand, the edges straightened on a belt sander and the ends roughly rounded off on a bench grinder, same for the bevel edge.

Can I borrow that trailer of his? (just before the manshed day)....oh, while he`s delivering tha trailer he can knock over that little concrete job of mine (at mates rates of course!)...ta make swmbo happy!
......ummmm....that would make me stuck with his trailer around 19th of September, and and and it can carry more than one bike!.....how far is it from Glenn`s to LB`s?
....might be more disabled bikes I could pick up along the way to Glenn`s Manshed Day. :drinks:
I'll continue on in this thread with my dog bones experiment. Fitted them up this morning, and have a 1/2" gap from tyre to floor on the centrestand. I can still sit on the bike flat footed, but its raining way too much here to go out at the moment for a short test ride. The is much more lean angle of course when on the sidestand, and I can now easily put the FJ up onto the centrestand, (nearly launched it through the wall). The stock dog bones are 12.5cm centres and I made these 11.5cm. Got a bit happy with the angle grinder when I was shaping these, but I'll do some better finishing after making sure these are keepers. :good2:

How did the new doggy's go?
(popcorn)
Ooops, forgot to report back. I've only done a short ride so far, but all feels good. Bike still feels much the same to me on the go except I'm now in a better riding position, not sitting "down" into the bike. Feels pretty stable at speed. My fitter/turner mate still wants to make me a set out of stainless steel, so I'll probably do that, my job is a little rough,
Times a ticking.....
Best get your orders into Randy this weekend.
If you want to ensure they are here in time for the 20th.
Don't want anyone to miss out :empathy:
Now back to the shopping cart... :mail1: Rear shock, Exhaust system, EFI, Valve cover grommets.......
See you all there...

Darran
G'day, just wondering if the northside blokes are meeting anywhere or which way use are going? I get lost easy .
Is that your REAL shopping list Darran?? Or just the "wishlist" :drinks:
I put a link in Ken to Glenns place. Its literally 4 mins down the road from where you came to my place last year. You can always come here first if thats easier.
Was thinking about a couple of jobs I really should do on the day. One will be to replace the bearings in the Suzuki wheel, and maybe, give the carbs a cleanout. Will be fun either way :good2:

It's time for one of the FJ to leave the nest.
A mate of LB's is looking to buy it .
Fingers crossed I might be able to tick off an item on the wish list.
You can follow me down if you like Ken .....
Surely there has to be someone else ridding down from up this way?

Good one Darran, will do, can fine tune it over the coming fortnight,
What does your nest leaving FJ need doing?
Well thought I would add this here. Heres Version 2 of my shortened dog bones, much nicer job than the ones I made. Although I must admit I didn't make these, a mate had his apprentice do them up for me out of 6mm stainless. I'll fit these at the Manshed Day, so if anyone wants my prototypes that are on the FJ now, (same size), they are yours. :good2:

Mate, that`s a shame. I was look`n for someone ta hold down me bit on the side that day. Together, we`d be great on lefthanders! (Though more air is good on them pesky high type gutters!)

Funny how the weather is on mancave days, my 1st one at Dougs it drizzled a bit, the 2nd one at Rays was a storm event with hail the size of all types of balls.
I looked at the bom and there saying there could be storms in the arvo this saturday, but now there predicting it the odds are in our favour,...
Ken, meeting at your place at what time Sat morning?
Harvy

Jeez Ken, what's going on? You're spoiled for choice with a garage full of great bikes (except for the XS 650, sorry ) the manshed is only an hour away, you have QL weather and you're
driving?
You've been reading too many rally reports from "over there"
Think of the money you could make selling joy rides on the R1
Surely one of your bikes would benefit from a run.
Noel
hehe , good onya Noel. Last Saturday i rode the cb down to Moorooka to a bike show . Amazing how so many people use to have one..
Went to the airport yesty on the fj to watch the planes. Your right our weather is great, im out and about 4 days out of 7 .
But it's been ages since ive been a passenger in a car and i can't wait. I hope Darran doesn't mind me with my head out the window..
Your right about the xs, even though it handles like a bag of shit and shakes like there's no tomorrow i like it.
It compliments my bonnie quite nicely. heres a photo

Being of a generous persuasion, (Unless I can talk him inta being me anchor man on lefthanders), I could park the chair (when I find his place at 7.30am saturday) & transport the R1 (or tha Bonnieville?) to the Joy rides venue.
I know, I know I am one of demonstrable charity despite a dichotomy of leanings. (no I haven`t had an operation!... just a new word I had ta look up recently!) :drinks:
Sorry Doug but the bonne and the r1 aren't rego'd.
Are you really riding the xs down to Glens? I don't think i'm game but if Darran wants to be your ballast i can drive his car.
I googled dichotomy and i still don't know what it means.

Hey Ken, Have you ever forgotton what bike your riding and gone to knock back the gears and locked the wheel with the brakes.
gday bones, funny you should mention that , last year i seen an old fella starting to cross the road, he had 1 of those walker things ..
anyway he seen me and i waved him across the road, as i started to brake all i did was change the gear down. anyway i eventually pulled up about 3 meters from him only because it suddenly dawned on me that its back to front,....
brakes and gear selector that is. Also this was before i eventually figured out how to adjust the front conical brakes properly. Once i figured it out the front wheel will lock up easily if you grab a handful of lever... have to admit now i can jump on it and get it all right now, took some time though.

Carbs were synched, oil was changed, dogbones were swapped over, beer was drunk, snags devoured, plus a bike was sold. It all happened at Manshed day at Glen's place today. It was a great day and a big thanks to Glen for hosting this one.

Sorry I couldnt make it. I wont be able to match Glen's setup but all are welcome at my place at Caboolture for the next manshed day
+1, Thanks Glen, top barbie, heaps to drink, you've got a nice place and some friendly dogs who really enjoy sausage end bits,,,, as usual another fine day..
BUT, i have to admit , the paparazzi made me look really fat again, hehe, cant wait to the next get together, once again thanks Glen,
ken
You guys look like you had a great day.
Glen, I like looking at the background in garage shots, for example, has Ken been bullshitting us about the R1 he owns.

Yours raises a few points of interest.
1. What's with the aircraft wing, the serious woodworking equipment and the fancy bench legs?
2.What's with the patio heaters, in QL? or have you converted them to run on refrigerant. Maybe you blokes need to invest in some of these for the "cold" months.
3. I feel like I know many of those that attended but don't have a clue what any of them look like, any chance someone could name those in the photos. The only thing I recognise is the General's arse, (err, from throwing his leg over the bike)
Looks like you have a great spread there Glen, it just looks so QL. I can feel the humidity and hear the mozzies from hear, Seriously, I love QL, lived there for a year in '75 and had a great time and have ridden there 14 times.
As Doug will tell you, I had originally planned on being there for the Manshed day but a conflicting event next weekend in SA made it impossible. It will have to wait until the rally.
Noel
Another great Manshed Day has come and gone. Nice and relaxing, great food, cold drinks, spacious shed, good crew to banter with, even the weather was good, (no tennis ball sized hail this time).
Not just FJs there today.

Bones had the right idea, lets get Glenns Ultralight finished first.

Even had a nice Hyosung 650 Sports with a wicked sounding Yoshimura pipe on.
My new dogbones installed, Thanks for holding the other end of the spanner Ken!

I have got to get me one of these great shirts from the Purveyer of Fine FJ products in California.
Just before Glenns chicken impersonation had worn off, he did actually lay some eggs and proceeded to cook them for us.
Well fed and watered, there were tales and laughs to be had.

Looking forward to the next one, and WELL DONE GLENN!!
The General did take a photo of us lined up at the end Noel, so he may be able post the photo and say who is who :good2:
THANKS Glenn!!
Was great to catch up with everyone.
Congratulations to Cheal on the purchase of his new FJ
The smile on his face after the test ride didn't leave all day
(http://i1285.photobucket.com/albums/a586/the4ts/DSC_0655_zps762c0ef6.jpg)
Lucky I didn't have LB's trailer on the way home or I might have picked this one up.
Seeing now I have a spare spot in the shed.

(popcorn). I did see a black/gold 1200 on gumflea last night for $1100 neg, looks like it's gone now, was just down the road too. The one for $6000 is still for sale, will be for a while I think.
I see that ad is no longer available and is sold.
Don't forget, Rover has my FJ which will be for sale shortly. If anyone knows of anyone interested, let me know.
Looks like a great day was had by all.
Randy - RPM
Great day, Great company.
Steve & I ducked into Ken`s and arrived precisely the same time as Harvy.
Ken came out and started polishing...with all that dust on my steed and Harvy`s oxidised plastics, Ken was beside himself. (though relieved I didn`t bring tha sidecar).
........ he needed counselling, so we sent him back in the kitchen, while we checked out some of his toys. (He left the bottle of polish on the ground, in case we needed it for medicinal purposes!...I believe he has a forum brother in the states with tha same addiction!)

Then Darran turned up with one in tow and for sale!
Had a fantastic Brekky with Kens family. His attention to detail even included aolie on the bacon & cheese brekkie burger.
A real triumph.
Only a half hour away we pulled up in Glenns back Yard.
We checked out his Around Australia ride scheduled for next January, marvelled at his current timber project, (Ultralite aircraft) and settled inta some fun in the shed, while Darran wooed his FJ buyer. (poor guy didn`t stand a chance with fellow owners surrounding him till he handed over the cash.)
(Learned a bit more about carbie synchronising thanks to Darrans gauges and Bones`s tech skills.
Managed to run outa fuel on the way home. (forgot the chook chaser is limited to small paddocks), but she putted away through a mighty storm that had many road racers cowering under bridges.
Here`s a pic of some of our mottly crew.

Many thanks (Voyager) Glenn. (Also Slippery Steve for tha fuel I siphoned outa his Tanks....sorta took the edge off me aolie and bacon breath!)
.
