I pulled my tank and got a surprise in that the vacuum shut off, was not. Petrol flowed freely out the petcock. Are there any threads on repairing that problem, or is it replacement?
Hey Tripper, I moved your question out of the Files Section over to here.
We have very few rules here on this forum but one rule we do have is : Don't post questions in the Files.
To answer your question, the best course of action is to replace your petcock with a new one.
Good prices can be found here: http://www.rpmracingca.com/search.asp?pg=1&stext=Petcock&sprice=&stype=&scat=&sman= (http://www.rpmracingca.com/search.asp?pg=1&stext=Petcock&sprice=&stype=&scat=&sman=)
You do not give us any information on the year of your FJ, that would be helpful for offering further advice.
Go to the Profile button at the top of this page, click it and add into the signature line of your profile the year FJ you have...this will automatically appear in your future posts with no further effort on your part.
This info. will help us, help you.
Cheers. Pat
Thanx Pat. I'll attempt to figure out The Files???
It looks like RPM is the trusted vendor of choice and an FJ enthusiast. I have found he offers the petcock at a discount from OEM list, safety-wired and ready to go. Next months spare money is allocated.
No problem laddie...
So it sounds like the petcock is frozen in the on position. You *may* be able just to take it apart and clean it.
Most of the time the vacuum diaphragm leaks causing the petcock to shut off when it should stay open.
We have been looking for a rebuild kit for these petcocks but have not yet found one.
I ran into the same problem with my petcock. I did some research and this is what I found, http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=12116.0. (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=12116.0.) I haven't researched much more on it but it might be worth a shot.
