Title: Hwy Pegs on the FJ?
Post by: karstenp on February 16, 2009, 08:55:26 PM
Has anyone installed highway pegs on the FJ?.... Yes I know it may seem strange but it would be nice to have a place to put my feet on for a quick rest on the longer runs.  Pictures and details would be great from anyone that has installed this mod.

Cheers,

Perry

Herny has them.

And he can set you up with his regular replacement program.

I tried a set mounted to the (unused on 91) engine mounts just behind the headers.
It was terribly uncomfortable since you're already leaning forward to the bars, so you end up doubled up.
I find that the pillon pegs give me an alternate place to put my feet, unless the pillon already has their feet there. :-)

Sorry, no pics

Cheers,
Arnie

Henry has his pegs mounted onto this engine bars.......

very easy to do and some simple and readily available clamp on pegs are all thats needed after you get the engine bars

What angle would you like?  I have a ton of pictures of the FJ and most show the rentec bars w/ pegs.  Stand by and I'll try to shrink some down to put here.  I'm pretty sure Henry's are the same thing.  Though I don't know if there is a difference between the earlier models and the later models...

On second thought, it looks like I can't attach pictures here regardless of size.  Marsh?  ???

Post them in the Gallery section!!!!!

OK.  I created a gallery.  I put 4 or 5 pics in but the gallery only showed a count of 2 but all the pics showed up in the recent view.  ??

BillO

edit cuz I'm a dummy.  Moved all pictures to the Vulcanbill gallery.  They're hi res so if you click on them once, they'll zoom a little.  Then look down in the corner for the "make it full size" option and you can blow them way up.  I have many more if needed.

Thanks for all the feedback.  The engine bars gives me the solution I was looking for.  Perfect location for a set of highway pegs!  I have a set of GenMar handlebar risers installed so the angle to the pegs would be more confortable than the stock setup.

Thanks for the pictures Bill.  It was exactly what I was looking for.

Kim's bike has Heli Bars as well.  Between them, the corbin and the highway pegs, hers is the bike we all long for after things start hurting.  She can generally shame the rest of us when it comes to long periods of time in the saddle.

Pat ,

I surely hope your beautiful FJ doesnt tip over........at least not without it being on something very very soft.

The wind blew my FJ over during the wild weather INdy Moto GP event...... not a scratch on it anywhere...... not sure the engine bars were the sole reason for the bike escaping unscathed but it sure didnt hurt anything by having them on there.

BTW i had a cover on my bike when it got blown over so it may have acted as a parachute ..... causing the bike to go over and possibly then slowing the fall... either way i wont be putting the cover on in the wind anymore...... i will also be smart enough to drop my tent flat during the next hurricane i camp in.

not that i ever plan on camping during a hurricane again but ya never know  ;D

although the reality is that once you put the bars on, you'll probably never drop your bike again.   ;D

NO NO NO........ I put mine on on a Thursday evening........HI-sided the next Sunday.........they are worth their weight in FJ engine......not a mark on the engine at all!  :)
Can't say the same for other parts of the bike, or the rider however.... :(

Don't count on it!  There are several of us that had the bars save us a trip on the back of a wrecker.  My right side bar is ground flat and was blued from the heat.  Sanding and paint and they don't look too bad.

I have a V & H exhaust on my bike and I was able to install a 1" bar under the headers and clamping it to the frame. This was a great location as I was able to rest my feet on it or even streatch my legs and rest them on the bar.
