Went on a ride for disabled veterans yesterday. Found out the windscreen on the 86 works great for deflecting deer. Puts them right up into your chest. That hurt..
This is what my cherry 86 looked like before deerkilling.

And this is what the deerkiller looked like blow it up and you can see fur sticking out of all the breaks in the plastic.

How did it taste?
Holy crap :shok: the critter came right over the top....Dan are you ok?
Yah really sore. My neck and back are a little crunchy. But I'm used to it. Got 29 broken bones and 40 pieces of titanium in me. Just my luck.
It was a little chewy

Yah Pat that is what the guy behind me said. I said it hurt but I was ok. Then he held out his hand and said he wanted to shake the hand of the man of steel. He said I didn't even wobble when it bounced off of me. I just gripped hold braced and pushed forward to meet him for the impact. I wasn't going to come off my bike.
Wow....the bike does not look bad at all....at speed, even a small 40-60lb doe will feel like a 250lb NFL linebacker hitting you....what a body shot that must have been.
I agree with your buddy.....you are amazing.
Let us know what you need for your bike. Heal well and quickly. Pat
Glad you are ok, that could have ended much worse. I am guessing the deer did not stick around, fleeing the scene of an accident.
Thanks Pat I've got to get it back together for the central rally on the17th I've got another fairing. That I bought for just such an occasion .I think it might be in better shape than this one was. Got to get it out and see.
I think the prerequisite qualifications for attending the central rally are far to tough for me. Rear ended--in the ditch--hit by a deere. This humpty dumpty has been put back together many times by the Docs when I was younger but I'm too old now. :flag_of_truce: Dave
Glad you're ok Dan, the deer are really out near us right now, pretty scary out there. Never hit one on a bike, Totaled my Volvo wagon hitting one 4yrs ago. And hit a cow on my SP600 going to work in the dark Oct 22 2008...broken leg, bent bars. These 4 legged beasts are vicious and should be slaughtered and eaten! You are very lucky!!! Windscreens are replaceable, we are not. Take care, Charley.

Yeah, planning on going to the Central Region Rally does look kind of rough. I'm still working on making it, but I promise I will be riding a daisy sniffing pace. :flag_of_truce:
Joe
Ouch! Sounds and looks like you and your baby got through it with minimal damage. We always talk about how deer come out at dusk and dawn but this looks like it was in the middle of the day. You just never know...
Take care,
Zwartie

No f'ing around with Giant Killer! Did you play defensive line (American football)...? If not, why not?
Frank
Yah highschool. Small school played almost every position. At one time or another. A lot smaller and faster (185lbs)
Discovered power lifting after HS. Then became a bouncer for fun and spare cash. Did that for about 20 years. Now I'm just a fat old man.

Glad you came out of this relatively OK. Much like my incident, you had a split second to prepare for the hit. I am sure that split second helped lesson your injuries and saved your FJ from further damage.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw Dan's post over on the Rally thread. We are all now playing.....Who can get their bikes back together the quickest. :scratch_one-s_head:
I have a spare OEM 86'/87' mirror I can donate. Give me an hour to get home to verify which side it is.
Fred
Nobody cares how the deer turned out????
Over done.
Gamey. Salty.
Tender.
The only person I know personally who had a mid-air deer collision, took an air ambulance to Toronto's best emergency facility and spent months in a hospital bed.
Ontario deer are pretty fargin' big but this one was already airborne at chest height after bouncing off an oncoming van's front end. Goldwing cut it in two but he never saw any of this. He had to be told later what happened. So . . .
You've got a story for the ages and you lived to talk about it. Go buy a lottery ticket.
Holy Toledo!
I believe Dan, in his power lifting / bouncer days was called Hercules....
Now we know why, apparently still a lot of strength remains from those days...
Ride safe...
So, GiantKiller rides a DeerKiller...
Sorry to hear about the crash, but glad you and the bike will be okay!
See ya in TPTN!
Glad to hear you came out in good shape. You are certainly a lucky person ! :drinks:
George
Dan, glad you are ok. Good thing the deer went high and didn't bend those beautifully forks.
Scott
(note to self, don't fuck with Dan)

Exactly what I thought.......
Dan, you are really something! I can't imagine pulling that off myself. I hope you are doing well and the FJ is an easy repair.
Leon
Damn! That's a story to tell around the fire!

That made me laugh. Tell the truth I kinda felt bad about killing the deer. Don't like to kill anything. Unless Its for food.
Fred thanks for the mirror offer. I've got a really ratty one the weight is loose and the reflective stuff is coming off. But it'll work for now till I can get a good one.

You've obviously never ridden in California. Car drivers are prime targets!
