Title: Fork oil change
Post by: Joe Sull on June 20, 2014, 06:13:04 PM
I changed my fork oil today as a starting point to find out if there working properly. I could see that they were not adjusted the same right off. Everything went pretty smooth till it was time to put the caps back on. It felt like I got the adj. rods indexed right. I screwed the caps back in and tried to adjust them. The adjustment screws won't turn and look a little rusted. I oiled them an still could not adjust. I squeeze the f brake and pump the forks, the adjustment screws go up and down as I look down on them.

Does that mean that the rods are not centered and there stuck in one of the side slots?

I was pretty sure they were centered. I don't know!

I got it now but not without murphy's law taking over. Removing the caps again, one side froze and I sheared off the roll pin that pins the adj. rod to the slotted cap. Got that taken care of. Both rods needed straightening. Once I understood how the adj. rod fits, I installed them fine. I got them set on 2.

I am sure that the last person that got into it put them in wrong because they were not adjusted the same, not even similar and when I put them in the first time, they should have went in centered but the rods were bent in the first place. Oh well, whats done is done.
