Darren you buy it I will ..........Look after it for you........PLEASEEEEEE..
Why don't I have any spare money, WHY? WHY? :ireful:
Ray, Equity mate.
Sorry to tell ya boys ...... its been sold
Hey Darran do you know who got it?
YES
Well.... Spill the beans. :scratch_one-s_head:
congratulations to whoever got the bike.
Lol, look at everyone online watching this :rofl2:
Ps, I'm going to take a wild guess as to who bought this bike .......Trento!
I was asked to keep it under my hat :hi:......
Oh look something may have slipped out .
Maybe it was someone that needs so new luggage.....
You know... I thought he would of come out by now..... (popcorn)
It should bring on another Manshed Day anyway :good2:
Just to let you all know it is still on the market..
Apparently I am allowed another bike if SWMBO is allowed a horse :dash2:
Well played Danielle
If I had the money, it would be mine I tell yas, MINE BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
But those panniers/topbox on the bike would be worth $1200.00 new on their own, making the whole package a bargain for the lucky person who gets it. *sigh* :dash2:
I wonder if he painted the fairing that colour, or is it one from an overseas model, and if so, what country. I don't mind that colour scheme.

Okay,Okay, I`ll fess up, it was me that was buying it!
Picked up Darran from his place on Sunday Morn with a Bike trailer on board. Inspected the FJ on site and found only niggling things like cracked fairing, screen inside inserts broken or non existant, needs new chain & sprockets, left rear blinker taped up following a fall from the sidestand, minor fairing scratches, Has 104000klms on the clock (not 40,000klms as advertised accidently), oil weep from cam cover gasket (probly a bolt gasket), very soft suspension, (But I have spare forks with goodies inside), Torn seat under fitted sheepskin cover, needs new tyres, & rego has only just run out. Seller had no idea the front fairing had been resprayed and the tank was original champagne colour under the black leather protector.
I thought it had a leaking exhaust gasket also which became a contentious point.
The great thing was he had a log book from the original owner covering first 10 years, (though water had damaged one page), a believable story of a further ten years in storage following a Stroke for original owner, the hard luggage is in great shape and it had fairly new supertrap mufflers and the standard rims were polished (underneath tha dirt)....so for the $1800 I had got him down to by phone, it was/is still a good purchase. (In the ozzie market)
My needs are a little different to most so I was hesitant due to the wrath at home, if I brought back more work to the mancave, but agreed to purchase.
But as we began to load up the motor (under heavier braking as Darran approached the ramp on the trailer), a rattly noise appeared at low to 2000 RPM that Dash believes is a Cam Chain problem, that would require splitting of the cases.
My thoughts were that it was an exhaust leak or possibly the usual starter chain rattle. I wasn`t acting when I exclaimed that it was a "Game Changer" for the purchase decision and the owners Jaw dropped!.......While it was real, I must admit discussions on the way back to lunch in sunny downtown Cooroy, determined it was a great team play for any future negotiations, because the owner immediately (who I think is a good bloke), cried and said it`s yours for $1500!!!
But ever faithful (read fearful) to my loving wife`s demeanor, I apologised and the deal was off.
Interestingly I arranged for Danielle to meet us for lunch and noticed Darran had begun a nervous rubbing of his chin which was accompanied by a single word repeated a number of times. (Shit, shit shit!) .....The luggage is gotta be worth $800 and a quick call to Xray confirmed he`d give me $600 for them immediately!...ummm, that makes it a $900 steal, cause I would have sent the shitty one`s from Klavdy`s bike to X Ray and he would`na known the difference!....tick,tick,tick...Neh, decided no, and noticed dash`s chin was getting red raw!
Great debate by phone included Harvy as we mulled over the rattle....My question being , How can a well tuned loaded motor produce an additional rattle from a worn cam chain?...The cam isn`t going through extra load?...Why didn`t it do it when not under load or at higher revs? Maybe a Guru could chime in here?....but meanwhile Darran was working out how to face the music, if he bought home a fifth screamer to his Cooroy FJ Hospital!.....It was tense in the cabin of my cage as we pulled up for Burgers and Beer battered Chips!
I guess a picture is better than words to describe Danielle`s reaction!

Mine makes a rattle under load Doug, the more the load, the louder the rattle, when taking off from a standstill, engine is quite otherwise. it's always been there, even when the previous owner had it. It had a new cam chain fitted about 30,000 km ago so it can't be that. Not sure what it is, but I don't worry about it because if something was going to break it would've done it by know. Mine has 107,000 km on it.
Tony.

What about a group buy. I need some parts to get my bike back on the road but cant afford to buy it outright and am going away for 3 weeks. I need a footpeg, oil pump cover, fairing parts, front subframe etc. I would also like to get hold of the mufflers. If 3 of us threw in 500 , took the parts we wanted and sold the rest it would be a very cheap way to go.
What about it Ray. Anyone else ?

Soooo, it doesn`t make the noise when you`re on tha trot!
Did you replace that Cam chain without splitting the Crankcase? Neighhhhh, Neighhhhhh, I don`t think you have to! New shoes, teeth, a roadworthy, some body paint, a number on her tail and tha bride`ll be in hand I reckon!
In the Mane it`s still a great buy, just too much flank for me. ....mmmm, If she`d rather be in tha stall then the Mall there`s plenty of cost savings for someone ta Build on! :drinks:

Man ure thinking now, but it get`s messey. It needs someone ta Vet the offer, then take the bit between their teeth and go for it, me thinks!
Thats the problem. I wont be able to make the sale or pick up the bike cause I will be on a beach somewhere in Thailand but if Ray or someone else wants to do this i will be in for sure. Will even pay up front before I go.

Tony, there's not a lot in there that would make the noise you mention under the circumstances you describe. However, I have seen a couple of FJ's do exactly that. In both cases it was a loose header pipe. It "jumps" off the head when that cylinder fires and snaps back with a bang/knock/rattle. It is very much load dependent and mimics a serious noise very well. Check your header nuts for tightness, only takes a second.
Further symptoms are, it's worse cold, and depending how loose it is, not present at cruise.

I checked the header pipe nuts and the collector box bolts and their ok, so I took a video with me on the bike, foot on the brake, in gear letting the clutch out to load it up, so you can hear the noise for yourself and maybe offer a diagnosis.
Doug, is that the same noise you heard on that FJ you were going to buy.
Engine noise FJ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCmiO-_lgKM#ws)
The early models had double walled down pipes which were known to fracture internally and rattle inside the outer tube, is it possible someone has fitted earlier down pipes although I don't know if these will fit later models.
Cheers, John
Nice idea Stu. I'm in for $500, I just really , really would like the luggage/frame. Concerning the rattle, if it's is when starting off from a standstill, it is my understanding that it is the starter chain. Mine rattles like crazy when going up the driveway in 1st, get out on the open road it's fine. Been like that for years and is not really a cause for concern. As soon as I heard it though I could tell you for sure.
PS. That's the noise Tony to a tee.
Ok, thats two of us. Anyone else in ?

But who gets what in a three way split?
Noel
Ray gets the luggage, I get the fairing bits, guages, headlight and mufflers etc, lucky number 3 gets his pick of what is left and anything remaining is sold or kept in reserve. As long as all agree before the purchase there wont be any problem
Yes Tony, mine is the same......been doing that since I bought it 100,000 kms ago.
I think its either starter chain or clutch basket rattle - either way it gets no worse so as they say - "if its not broken don't fix it"!
Stu, if the deal falls thru, don't forget the bits and pieces in my shed.

I know I'm a newbie here but I'm thinking about it. I' try and write up a bit more about myself in intro. Basically, very easy to get along with. Ride with a group we call ourselves the turtles, that might give you some idea.
Cheers steve
If your keen to sell the engine and front end im interested!
Have a talk to xray. We might be able to work something out
PM sent guys, need to sort a few things out, will check first that the seller has the bike actually for sale.

Worst thing you can to to an FJ is to ride it like an old man. It needs to run free, not be held back by some 60 yr old. :-)
Note: Police in most of the nanny states don't agree with my statement above.

A lot of 60 yr olds don't agree with it either.
Bike is sold according to an SMS I received from the owner at 6.38am this morning. :empathy2:
(He didn`t indicate who, but I`m assuming no one we know.)
Damn! Was looking forward to building a monster engine. Oh well if you find another one for the same price let me know, I'm in at any time.
Thanks

Steve came around to my place yesterday. "The Turtles" !!!!.....yeah yeah mate, nice camouflage,....but great to catch up with you. :drinks:
Bit of thread hijacking. Thanks to theGeneral for answering the call. Mirrors make the bike look a bit 'buggy' but should pass rwc. Thanks for loving to talk bike crap, have a cuppa, letting me have a smoke and having a win at an auction. Already looking forward to man shed day. Now as long as the rest of you love lining up at the lights and dropping burnouts, jokes.
Cheers, slippery
