Title: Reskinned the seat
Post by: JPaganel on June 13, 2014, 04:22:04 PM
Last fall I got a couple of cracks in my seat after pressing down on it on a cold day. By now, one of the cracks developed into a largish hole.

So, I stopped by Joann Fabrics and picked up some marine-grade vinyl. This stuff actually seems to be rather thicker and tougher than the original seat skin. And, after some time with a heat gun and a stapler, the attached picture is the result.

Nope. Just heat, pull and staple.

Very nice job. How long did it take?  Dave

All told, it was about an hour, hour and a half, I think. Not too bad for my first time upholstering.

From what i've read, adhesives kind of important. It stops the vinyl from creeping back and stretching. Oh well, it's cheap enough that you can do it again if you have problem.

The original skin wasn't glued. I figured this should last at least the same 27 years it did.
