Yamaha Canada had one available for the test ride a few weeks ago. Nice looking bike. A little cheaper looking than the FZ 9. All around a really cool bike though. My friend rode it. He thought it was nice but liked the FZ 9 better. Dollar wise it is a real bargain. The same shop had a KTM Duke on the same floor. It was a single cylinder sub 700 machine that was almost 2800 more. WTF?

We're talking Apples & Ferraris here.I read the review of the FZ-97 a few weeks ago, and it sounded pretty good, but the suspension was damper rod fork (IIRC) w/o any adjustment, rear shock had preload only.  I think the brakes were also a bit soft.  Comfort & power sounded good, + the 270ยบ crank seems cool.  V-twin in a parallel twin package.
Nice scooter, I sure take that over a NC-17 NC-700 Honda.

I'd bet the KTM has expensive WP USD front forks with full rebound/compression/preload adjustments, and similar WP shock in the rear.  Probably ABS, Brembo brakes, and more HP (even though it's as single!) and I'd guess ... more personality.

Spoken as a completely un-opinionated KTM owner  :good2:

You are right Ed. Unfortunately the target audience doesn't know the difference. The point is, building interesting  lower priced bikes to get newbies on board.
It just got me thinking when I saw the two bikes ,how their prices would look to a newbie.

I think the fz07 would look like a lot of bike for the money, which it is!  But who doesn't look at the Ferrari or Lamborghini when they go by or are parked?  I bet even a newbie would at least recognize there are differences between the Rz and ktm.  Hopefully they inquire and maybe upgrade later. Either upgrade existing or upgrade rides.

My question - when will we see a 1398cc I4 Version?

Ed, we are not "normal" bike riders. In case you were wondering. LOL.

Oh yea, I haven't been 'normal' for years.  But anybody that rides a bike automatically moves away from the 'normal' herd immediatly.

I still think that FZ7 (or is it FZ-07 or Rz or FJ or what ever else I've called it) will be a cool bike & I hope Yamaha sells a bunch!  Not for me personally, but I think Yamaha builds a good superior product that is well thought out and corners are not cut that could be cut.  Plus I like their MotoGP team, and somebody has to pay Rossi & Lorenzo!

I'm a fan of the triple...a super sport version of the FZ09 with all the top line suspension goodies and I think a 1200cc cross plane triple would be cool..

Waiting to see what Triumph does with their triple....
