Title: 86 front axle length compareded to a 89 and up
Post by: sandspider on June 01, 2014, 03:51:32 PM
Slowly make progress  with wheel mods

I don't have a axle from the 91 forks , using a fzr wheel , is the one from a 91 the same length as an 86 ?
Other than not having a hole for a cotter pin  ?

To get to the point can I use the 86 axle and drill some holes for a cotter pin and use a washer ? ( threads to long to short )

Thanks for your time !

Soon to be riding on 17 inchers

I'm going by memory now, so I'm not 100% sure, but i think the length is the same... But I'm not sure if the front part and threads are the same..
When i did the mod i bought a new front axle from Randy so the fit and looks would be perfect.

The axle is pretty cheap  89-91 front axle (http://www.rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=M%2FC%3A89-93FAxle)

I would recommend you buying a new one insted of drilling holes and running the risk of damaging your 86 axle or your fork threads.

Cheers
