Title: Stock muffler disassembly
Post by: universalhat on May 25, 2014, 05:29:39 PM
Hi, all!  First post, tried my best to find an answer by using the search bar first, all the typical forum niceties...  No luck, so I'll ask the question directly.

I've come into possession of two different right-hand mufflers for my FJ.  One of them is packed just fine, but it's snapped about two inches downstream from where it would attach to the stem coming off of the collector.  The other is not broken in this way, but is also hollow - containing no packing material (and seemingly no inner pipe.)

My question is this - Is it possible to non-destructively disassemble the stock FJ mufflers?  Or would I just be better off finding a shop willing to weld the packed-but-not-attachable muffler back together?

(Also, if the second option is the better one, how does one go about finding a shop willing to do that?  Googling 'welding' and my area turns up supply stores, but no repair-services for the likes of a mere civilian like myself.)

Thanks all in advance!

EDIT:  It's a 1990 model, and I shoulda mentioned that to start with.  I am not a clever man.

I think any good motorcycle exhaust shop would be able to do either for you. The shop I used for my mufflers did a full stainless reskin on my mufflers and welded them up neat as a pin.
