Hi Guys,
My '84 with a jet kit (unknown brand) won't idle reliably until warmed up (with an excessive warm up time and fiddling with the choke). I can't drive off safely. I can increase the idle with the first travel of the choke cable, but when I come to a stop, the idle will go sky high. If I don't increase the idle with the first travel of the choke cable, the motor will die at the first stop I make. This makes it downright dangerous to drive in traffic until fully warmed. I don't think the jet kit should affect the idle. What would be the most likely cause of this behavior? (Or what's the fix for it!!?)

sounds like a vacuum leak. rubber intake manifolds or the orings in them.
Has it always done this ? or are you a new owner of this fj with jets done by the p.o.?

the fj is a cold blooded bitch , how long is your warm up time ?
Clean your carbs, thoroughly. Read the Carb Files on how to do this....
That's a perfect description of my '92 when I first got her.
I got new inlet manifolds with new o-rings, and then synced the carbs. She ran much, much better then.
You can probably get by just with replacing the o-rings, make sure are the vacuum ports are capped. (And no cracked caps.)

You have been busy, the Monkey has been backing off. Too much stress at work. My final date is June 30. I am helping them move to a new location and mopping up in the old place to return to the property managers/owners... It is a lot of work, we just vacated 180K SQ FT (just shop space, another 25K of office) facility that we occupied for 14 years. Lots of stuff to fix and clean up before we hand the keys over. Having been with this company for 21 years, I want to do my best for them and part in a friendly way.

Thanks, I think I will be OK. I have been tossing cats into the air and watching how they land. Taking lots of notes and study on technique. They don't always land on their feet but they have the "Try like hell" attitude.... Very inspiring... The canned fish seems to only pay for one crack at the cat. So I am getting a really good sample size. But they seem to slowing down to take the fish. I think I need to find a new neighborhood to continue my study... Fresh PU$$&, hear Kitty kitty....

Funny, if you spin them around and make em dizzy they will stick to a popcorn ceiling when you toss them up...... so I've heard.. :wacko1:
I am in a similar state as well , the vocational trade school I teach at is closing it's campus in my city. I will be done in Oct. It is like watching the Titanic slowly sink.
