Hello at all..i' m a new fj's owner i have a 1987 1tx model...i woud like to improve the brakes..already changed pads...may be with blue dot ?...what about something to rise up the rear? It's too much low!!! Thanks a
Welcome dude... Try HH rated pads for a cheap fix. Blue dots are nice, they work better with braided lines...
If I'm not mistaken, the '87 won't take the blue dots...or the more modern 4-pot FJ1200 front calipers as a direct bolt on. It would require swapping the front end with an '89 or newer front end or devising an adapter plate of some sort.
To improve what you're working with there, change to stainless lines as the Monkey said...EBC HH pads, clean and service the calipers/pistons, replace the brake fluid with fresh, do a thorough bleeding to get all the air out of the lines and make sure there isn't any residue on the rotors. That's about as good as you're going to get with the older 2-pot calipers.
If it's a seat height issue, I'm with you... If the previous owner swapped to a Corbin seat, you could swap back to the original seat...The Corbins seem to put you a bit lower in the saddle.

I have originale seat but the bike looks too low on the rear for my taste...already changed pads, clean calipers and have stainless lines.. but still seems like old brakes...may be using some kind of adaptor can i put blue dot on my antidive forks??? :dash2:..p.s. i'm sorry for my bad English...

When you say "already changed pads" did you fit EBC HH pads. If you didn't, there is a world of difference between the EBC's and other pads. Just fitting EBC's should make a big difference to original braking performance. Pete.

Pete, that's an excellent point. Nearly all references here to these pads only mention HH not specifically EBC. I haven't tried others, no need to, there is more than enough evidence around to support these being superior.
One member here a while back did just that and bought some other brand HH then changed over to the EBC and couldn't believe the difference given they both had the same rating.
For the benefit of those here who are new or don't already know perhaps when making recommendations we should make that point.

Noel, the member that you mention just happens to be me. I bought some Goldfren HH pads from Ebay (cheap), to suit my newly fitted blue spots. I was happy with their performance until they finally wore out and fitted EBC HH pads. To put it in plain english, night and day. My brakes went from very good to unbelievable. Pete. :good2:
