Title: AIR FILTERS
Post by: bama1 on October 28, 2009, 05:41:09 AM
Just wondering if anybody is using the single air filters for each carb, and if you like them.I had thought about buying some for my bike.I have heard good and bad things about the single filters for each carb. There is filters on ebay all the time that are not K&N filters Im not sure if they are any good or not but they are a hell of a lot cheaper than K&N.I know your bike needs to be jetted and all that, mine is. :unknown: :unknown:

Buddy, airfilter threads ahev been around on the Yahoo group for a few years now. The consensus is that UNI dual pod filters are the best way to go as they are made with 2 different layers of foam, and are filter-oil covered - thus filtering out more/finer particles than any of the many other types/brands available.
I believe Randy RPM on this group has them available?
If not they can be obtained direct from UNIfilers in the USA.

Have a look here: http://www.unifilter.com/online%20catalog/universal.html (http://www.unifilter.com/online%20catalog/universal.html)
Scroll to just over 1/2 way down the page the the Dual Throat filter made specifically for the FJ.

I ordered mine direct from UNI....took about a week to get here...... don't forget you need 2 of them.

Cheers
Harvy

Not as popular with this group, but UNI does make a filter for the stock airbox, too.

I've got one around here somewhere that I never did use.

I have a K&N air filter in my box right now.I just thought it would be nice to get the box off and put the singles on.I have just heard that you could have problems with moisture from rain, but I really do not like to ride in the rain no way. Thanks for responding Randy.

If water gets to the filters on a FJ you are some place you should not be. Between the gastank front baffle & side covers that can be classed as a dry bay. :good:

Dude - everybody uses them - this is a moot point to discuss - they work better and stay on better than the K&Ns.  I have the K&Ns - only because they came with my FJ when I bought it.  They can fall off - you have to learn a whole ritual to get them to stay on - a ritual that is honed and polished up over years - and then they can still fall off.  I'd do the Uni dual pods if I were in your shoes.  Contact Randy at RPM via the info here:

Using UNI individuals on mine.  The dual version is also good.

Don't waste money on K&N's.  They fit badly on their best days, and not at all on their worst.

Yes mate, DP3229......the first column in the listing I posted earlier..... give them bell,...... you won't be disappointed.

I've had mine on for about 4 years now..........they may be a little more expensive in the first place, BUT you only need to buy them once, clean them with turps and re-oil them........will last a long long time.

will last a long long time.

But not forever... the UNI stock filter replacement I had lasted about 10 years before the foam started crumbling... FWIW
