Title: Off road riding

Good example of target fixation with near tragic results. You can see he stands the bike up the second the car comes into view.

Noel,

I've seen a longer version of that clip a few days ago.  In the long version there's much more footage of the bikes riding and passing each other, then the "oh shit" moment and crash, but then you see the rider pick up the camera and climb back up the embankment hobbling a bit.

All the facts are the same, except the implied conclusion in the short version is that he's either died or had serious injuries.  In the version I saw, his injuries appear to be minor except for the damage to his bike.

Either way, the lesson is; Don't run wide and cross the center line.

What makes this one unusual is he doesn't seem to go wide until he sees the car.

Riding instructors tell you the Bike goes where the rider is looking. If he is looking where the car is at, instead of where he wants the bike to go...

There was a 'slow' sign just before he ran off as well.

These days experience helps you to look down your side of the road away from the scary car but, I've been there, just got lucky.
