I put about 10 miles on my bike today. Changed the fuel pilot jets to #40's and it ran a lot smoother. There's still something funky. It might be loading up at low rpms because of my float level being at .84" (21.3 mm). I didn't have a plug socket with me to check.
There's a few places without frost heaves and I came on to her. Oh BOY..Ha! :wacko2:
Snap to WOT from a 2-3k cruise in 3rd or so. If it stumbles before taking off, then you're right on the fuel height. At cruise I finally ended up with 42.5 pilots, which should be too big, but they made a HUGE difference, and I finally found a dead smooth cruise. A crap chain will feel pretty similar to that surging low-rpm feeling as well, until you've felt both on the bike and can mentally compare.

I still don't have an understanding of how float level effects fuel use. I read that it does and adjusted the floats to run richer.
I'll try that test Andy and you mentioned the chain. My chain is in good shape but I noticed that it is way to tight. I'll adjust that right off. I thought I had it close when I assembled the bike but I was mistaken.
Adjusted my chain and oiled with 10-30
(cause something heavy dropped on my new can of "Gunk chain lube" and just about turned the spray nozzle outside-in :shok:)

It does that, It stumbles. It doesn't hesitate like a dead spot. It feels like it's getting surge of fuel for a second and then it takes off.
After a good warm-up the idle hangs up before it drops to 1000 rpm. My mixture screws are at 2 1/2 turns right now.
It is running better. I need to check the plugs for carbon but for the first time, it feels like it's running on the rich side.
I guess I'll turn the mixture screws in a 1/2 turn.
