Title: one for the well healed purists...

A salty asking price, but it's a beaut....

IIRC, that one was on there sometime back... obviously no one is likely to any anywhere near that price.     :wacko2:

My 84 looks that good and it runs. That price is out of this world. I wonder what the reserve price is?   Dave

This has been listed a few times on eBay. I have seen the bids get to the $3500.00 range and he won't sell. I would bet a dollar that his reserve is set at the $5000.00 buy it now price.  :wacko2:

For that amount of money, shouldn't you at least get clean carbs and a fresh battery?

I wonder what I could sell my '84 for?

Eh, probably not much... it's a 30 year old Japanese bike.    :pardon:
Hell, the engine isn't even Legends legal, right?        :bomb:

I exchanged messages with the seller. I asked him  "Is the price excessive to avoid having to part with the bike. "
They wrote to me.
"If you were seriously looking for a 1986 FJ in mint condition and you had any money you would hit the Buy it Now. Oh well now i understand what it means when they say California is for Dreamers!!!"

I responded
"Thanks for that response. It tells me plenty about you as a seller. I guess you got what you wanted and that was to keep the bike. Congrats."

The seller wrote:
"Never could understand why guys like you who dont have any money like to waste there time on ebay looking for things that they cant afford? Next time I suggest you go to dontbebroke.com first before you get on ebay and start bothering people! "

The bike is reposted at Ebay Item Number  231198727874

Makes you want to ask the seller why he thinks that his bike is worth 50% more than somebody else's clean 86 FJ. :ireful:

Actually, I kind of wonder why he considers his bike mint, when first off it's a non runner due to lack of a battery and the carbs needing to be cleaned.  Second, the engine block was painted and the clutch cover was polished.  Third, I don't believe that decals on the front fender were OEM.  :scratch_one-s_head:

I also wonder why he didn't include any picts of the left side of the bike.    :unknown:

As with Cal's stupid house prices - the market ultimately decides

The seller makes this offer:

"Dear cafe_nervosa,

....Which leeds me to the point you make about it being over priced. The offer that I make to you or anyone else in the FJ club who thinks my bike is over priced is this. Find me the same bike same condition for less money. I will buy it. Then I will give you or anyone else in the club my bike for free just for finding it for me. If you or anyone else does'nt think my offer is fair let me know? I sincerely hope you will post this for everyone in the club to read!!!"

Does anyone have a mint 1986 YAMAHA FJ1200 for sale for below $5,000?

My buddy, Jimmy Mac, scours Craigslist and every Friday posts an ad that has the words "ran when parked" in it. He finds some cool stuff and some stuff that looks like it has been living in a koi pond.

This thing is the same. What I don't understand are the guys who bid it up to over $3k the last time ... or a bike that looks good from the right, has low miles as long as the odometer hasn't been changed, and has an engine that has just a good of a chance of being crap as it does of being cherry.

I think this is a case of a guy wanting a "cause", something to get wound up about. My bike is worth $5k and not a penny less. He seems to be a drama queen looking to hold court.

I think the thing is worth $1200 and a bottle of Midol.  :blum1:

p.s. I talked to my girlfriend about this and her first response was to ask why the guy didn't just buy a battery and get the carbs cleaned... and then offer a bike that ran. Out of the mouth of a babe comes great wisdom.
