Title: Dirty Street Bobber, FJ1100 -85
Post by: Bearmeister on March 21, 2014, 05:29:03 PM
Hello!
Starting a new project, picked up an old Fj1100 from 85. Going to rebuild it bobber/cafe/streetfighter-ish style :) We will see what it turns out to be haha :)
Its been standing around for a few years, but i got it running, except the fuel pretty much runs straight through the carbs :/ So thats first off, before the rebuilding part.

Something like this is what im aiming for, this is an early paint picture, but you get an idea of what im thinking

Thats a nice looking bike :)

Have a lot of plans/ideas for the project, but Ill let the piictures speak for them selves further on. Then we´ll see how many who hates or likes it :D

That bike was in rough shape, not a good candidate for a pure breed anyways.

I don't know about the handlebars and the seat size, colors... But you're definitely going to want to replace the tank and pipes, for anything of the style it looks like you're going for. (I definitely wouldn't call what you're doing a cafe or a street fighter, by the way... Looks like a cruiser convert attempt there, if I have to title it.)

Notice how the flat black on the stock tank, look smaller and part of the seat and tail. Smart

Its not gonna look like the picture. Gonna keep the tank, make a solo seat with crocodile leather, sand/brown color. Going to be details in copper color, overall matt black. Some bits in white as well.

Here´s some things ive bought

No pass pegs. Extreme rear sets.

I didn't notice the pegs. Maybe it look weard without them. Look at the fork tubes- I saw a writeup on how to change to those tubes. I thing it was on a UK FJ site. I'll try to find it.

Very purdy, nice work!  :good2:
I'd recommend a set of Uni filters from Randy, rather than those K&Ns.

very nice i like the copper colour you've used on the tops :good2:

are you reusing the original rear subframe? might be a tight fit with those pod filters. i've got k&n filters on mine and theyre more oval shaped and a tight fit between the subframe bars.

Post by: Bearmeister on March 23, 2014, 10:53:58 AM
Thank you :) Ive had them mounted once, so they fit, but im not going to use the original subframe either :)Got all the filters for 19$, so ill give em a try!  Gooing to spend as little as possible on it :) Im a cheap bastard! Haha
Title: Re: Dirty Street Bobber, FJ1100 -85
Post by: simi_ed on March 23, 2014, 12:09:20 PM
I understand cheap, but the K&Ns will pass fine silt will eat your motor.  Not mch of a savings when the bores & bearings wear out.

They'll fit fine; I use the same pods on my '86. The Unis might be better, but I bought mine back in the pre-Randy days...no issues so far.

#1, Welcome and looks like some good work.

#2, If you need the correct parts for your FJ, look here: www.RPMracingCa.com (http://www.rpmracingca.com)
I have the most comprehensive in stock inventory of FJ specific parts in the world from carb part including the proper bowl gaskets and trick S/S screw kit for the carb as well as all other engine parts and a ton of other part too.

#3, Those are not K&N filters, they are a china knock off that use a rubber boot that slips into the metal filter housing. The rubber will shrink over time and they will allow a lot of dirt to bypass the filter element.

Been quite some time since update, lots of things going on, so havent been able to work on the bike so much.

Cleaned out and bled front brakes, new hoses. New clutch hose. Ordered a new rear brake m/s, the old one was crap. Got a new caliper aswell from a GTS1000 -93, straight bolt on.

Seat pan is starting to get in shape. Have to come up with a mount for it, the tank to. Going to cut the old subframe for that, we´ll see how it turns out  :good2:

I think this bike is virtually flawless and the most you can get out of an FJ as a streetfighter. I have my custom guy drawing up plans based on this but all black and stainless with tons of blue LEDs.

It's interesting that someone fitted a fill plug in one of the oil galleys on your engine........................

Are you naming your bike? "The Bear"  :good:

Ive been pretty confused about what that plug was doing there  What does oil galley mean? Didnt get any translation for that :/ Is it another peeking window for oil level? :p

Haven´t thought of any names really :) but love my little bear in the front, thought it was a given cause thats what my name (Björn) means in english :)

I would say that the term "OIl Galley" refers to basically a channel, or pathway for the circulated oil to travel throughout the engine................
The plug that is supposed to go there is an internal-hex-head cap, that you would use an allen key to remove.............

It should look like the plug on the left in this picture..............................There are a few more on the engine. I believe there are a couple different size threads on them.

No, there are two caps depending on the thread pitch:

There are two different oil fill caps depending on pitch, but what about the plugs where the temp gauge adapter goes?

BTW, I recently did this mod/upgrade as well using this adapter. Excellent work on the part of RPM I must say. The only improvement would be if it came with the o-ring or had a link to one. I just reused the one from the plug I removed.  I used the same location as well and opted for a digital temp gauge to avoid issues with needle bounce.

Corrected with a related link associated, sorry about that.

Also, there is a smaller galley adapter for the oil pan galley that I need to get added back to inventory. I will get that done shortly and posted up.

I love the spigot handle on the oil fill -- I always have to find pliers and a rag to get it off!
