Bear with me. The FJ part is at the end. (popcorn)
I just finished changing the brake pads on my Audi Q7. There was a warning that came on the dash telling me my brake pads are worn. For a rich guy who doesn't work on his own vehicles, that's cool. But I changed all the pads AND 8 SENSORS since they are mounted IN the brake pads. $200, parts only. Oh well, it's done. I'm "old school" so I wasn't a big fan of the warning and sensors and crap.
BUT a week later I heard something from the rear wheel on my FJ that didn't sound normal. You guessed it... metal on metal. Brake pads worn completely off. No real damage to the rotor, so just replaced the pads today and all is good. Careful what you wish for.

Those sensors ARE "old school" they've been around for 30 or 40 years on some cars. A wire embedded in the pad that earths out on the disc activating a dash light.
