Title: upgrade my fj1200
Post by: gonzajr on March 16, 2014, 05:05:56 PM
Hello, 1986 fj1200 front brakes tires forks would like to change this all of these to a 1992 FZR600 Yamaha. This Yamaha has a 17" front tire and an 18" rear. I am thinking to run the 17" in the front and the original 16" in the rear. Please give me some ideas if this is a good setup or not. This FZR600 is a full bike and I hear that you can change the front brake master and calipers to the front of my fj1200.

Bad choice. Won't fit.

The '92 FZR600 uses 38mm fork tubes, the FJ uses 41mm. The FZR forks are damper rod forks.

How do I know this?
I looked up the '92 FZR600 specs on the Race Tech website.

If you are interested in truly 'upgrading' your front suspension, don't even consider damper rod forks, look for cartridge forks at least....stiffer fork tubes, say a 43mm would be a plus.

Unless you want to go with a 1992 FZR1000 USD front end (plug and play) save your time, effort and money and go with the tried and true conventional '89+ FJ lowers, RPM valves/springs, '87/88 FZR rim and blue spots.

Listen to Pat and others.... They have been down the road before.. Some of them more than once.  The above is about the best bang for the buck.

Yeah, they dig those Large Diameter fork tubes. Circumference is where it's at!  :nyam1:
