Post by: Fj.itis on March 14, 2014, 05:54:09 AM
Hi guys!

1st pic was going to cost to much to get rego'd so i changed a few things in the second to have a roadworthy bike.

Edit. Cant seem to post pics here any help would be great thanks. Two pics in gallery but cant transfer.

Cheers Fred, i must admit the fj has got balls for an old bike. Previous bike was zx9r, this thing is right up there especially since i got rid of the bulk of the weight.

Ok this is take 1

IMO A low profile 180/55/17 tire and underslung caliper would really set off the Street Fighter Look.

Cheers guys, a wider wheel is definitely on the to do list but for now just want to enjoy riding it instead of wrenching on it all the time. Been a 6 month journey to get it to this point and I'm happy to be on a bike again, its been 5 years!

Wathca gunna do for the headlamp, the front original headlamp/fairing mount chassis section poses a problem with the naked design, I have plans for a my other 1100 to get a 1200 motor
& 17 inches front & rear.

That front chassis section is in the road of a fork mounted head lamp & that section, I feel, would weaken the bike if cut out  :scratch_one-s_head:

Looks cool, love the colour. Like Megsy said, the headlight fitment could be a problem because of the frame around the headstock. You can't cut anything off because it would be structurally unsafe. I've seen pictures before with 2 small headlights fitted to the front bar, but to me look a little odd.

I know the street fighter look calls for the bare minimum, but would a small bikini fairing look out of place. It'd cover the bar work up and somewhere for a headlight.

Ok so its not the best pic but here is the headlight, i wired a diode in between the two globes so that high beam is 2 globes and low beam 1 globe, in total 110watts. In the future maybe get a r1 nose race fairing and put this light in it, that way it covers up that horrible nudge bar at the front.

I cut the nudge bar in the first attempt and rode it around for more then 100km and it handled quite well, no sign of stress but engineers wanted to much to rego it, so this is what i got for now.

Looks great but how solid are the side frame rails tied together?    Dave

I'd like to ride it. With the weight saving I bet it handles very well.  Dave

Yeah, massive difference! Even the stock forks and rear shock feel stiffer. My relative has owned a stock one for years and reckons its to stiff for him. Haha. Makes s bends a lot easier to switch the weight around with the bike this lite.

The bike weighed in at 195kg (430lbs) dry in the first pic, the second one ain't much heavier.

Good to see a street fighter thread going.  I think they are pretty cool, and in fact, it was my first thought with the 86 we refurbished.  My sons', who are 21 and 23, are both pretty interested in building one so I think next winter we will go that way.  I have an 85 that is pretty rough but runs ok so I think it might become that project.

Myself, I really like the stock looks of the FJ, but the reality is that plastic is going to continue to become more expensive and hard to get.  Going naked will be the evolution of many FJs so it is very interesting to see all the different approaches.

Mmmm, nice. I can see a few of us wanting to place an order for a nice custom stainless guard like that.  :drinks:
