Title: New member from Connecticut....
Post by: SILVERGOAT on October 20, 2009, 06:31:24 PM
Hi Guys, new member to the forum/FJ ownership experience. Always wanted one. Look forward to many miles and smiles as this will be used for long rides/tours. My daily ride is an '03 KR EDITION FZ1 with a few extras and my girl and I also are building her a TZ250 for a run at Bonneville. Picking up a rolling chassis '95 YZF600R to at least update FJ's wheels and possibly rear shock. May need help. Will post questions/ideas when needed. Thanks. Jeff.

Welcome to the fold, where we twist the wrist and yell KOOKALOO!!! with a smile so big you can taste your earlobes.

It's all good till someone on an FJ passes you and leaves you in the dust.

Jeff,

Hello and Welcome.   :hi:

What year FJ did you pick up?  Seems as though you have the mod bug full time.  You will be happy when you bring your rim/tire combo into the 21 century.

Later, Phil

I picked up an '89 with 47,000 miles. It runs excellent, has no engine noises and has been very well taken care of. It is a local bike that has been serviced by the local shop owner(my FZ1 belonged to him and came from the same dealer) since it was bought from the local dealer he worked for before it went out last year. It really needs nothing, but while doing some research while contemplating buying the FJ, I came across ALOT of people who did the wheel/suspension swaps. As I scan the local ads everyday, I remember seeing an ad for someone parting out a '95 YZF600, so after some deliberation, I have decided to purchase the rolling chassis for at least the wheels and maybe some brake parts(look very similair to FJ parts). Front end not much different than stock, but at least same size and who knows what I might be able to do with them. I promised myself not to modify ANY of the original FJ parts as to preserve it.

Forgot to mention, around here, 97-07 "Thundercat" style YZF's are still bringing good money and are in too nice a condition to cannibalize for parts, so I hope buying the '95 wasn't a big mistake. I would at least like radials under me.

Silvergoat,

I have an 89 myself.  I bought it from the original owner and like you I did not want to distroy the bike.  So I just bought the parts that had to be modified to fit the FZR1000 rims on my bike.  That way I have all the original parts for the bike.  Not that I will ever put them back on, but it is a habit I pick up from modify older cars.  I always had a better return on investment when I could sell all the original parts with the cars.  Although, I would sometimes put them back on because I could get more money with the car being original.  But that is not the case with these FJ's.

Later........ :bye2:
