G'Day Guys, I've been looking for a good RHS filler panel for my 1987 (1TX) FJ1200, to no avail. I contacted a guy in Western Australia who makes repro panels (fibreglass) and he thinks he has the correct mould to do all three panels (in one piece?) but he's not 100% sure that it's for a 1TX.
Can any of the assembled experts confirm if this is the correct mould? Thanks in advance! Cheers, Terry.

That looks like it might be for a '91+ with the little compartment just above the choke/reserve panel.

Nope....91+ only has one vent per side, not 2.

Right 3Cv 89,90.

Thanks guys, so will these panels fit my 1TX? Cheers, Terry.

I agree with Jeff. It looks like a 88-90 FJ panel. I don't know if it will adapt to the 87. The fairing contour might be different.
George
The photos look like a possible mold for the 89'/90' 3CV inner panels. I don't think they will work for a 86'/87' 1TX. the 89'/90' main fairing is 2 inches wider and 2 inches taller.
Look closely at the trailing edge of each fairing and the different contour in relation to the frame angle. The inner panels are molded to take up the space between the fairing and the tank. Different fairing size/shape, means different sized inner panels.

Thanks guys, my RHS filler panel has been previously damaged and then plastic welded (on the outside for some reason) and there's a small piece missing, so I was hoping to replace it, but now I think I'll just repair it with a fibreglass repair kit. Cheers, Terry. :flag_of_truce:
Plastex works great for filling in missing parts. Comes with a reusable molding bar. Plast aid is a similar product that looks like it would work as good. Haven't gotten to use plast aid, but plastex works. Is sandable too.

Do not use fiberglass, I know it is easy to get and is simple to work with. The problem is, the panels and all other fairing/cowling pieces are ABS plastic. Fiberglass does not adhere well to the ABS. At the slightest movement between the 2 pieces, the fiberglass will delaminate.
I use ABS plastic cement and small scrap pieces of abs plastic, (you can raid your kids' Legos) they are ABS plastic. Dissolve the ABS pieces in ABS cleaner to make a gooey paste.

What piece is broken off ? The part that is welded on the top, glue a fitted sheet of ABS to the back side overlapping the crack by an inch or two ( 25 - 50mm or more). Then you can sand down the repaired top, dress it and paint. Let me know what part is broken off I might have that ? Never throw away broken ABS bit's :good2:.
ABS glue is commonly found in home repair stores. Used for black ABS plumbing pipe. ABS sheet material is easily bent or contoured to fit a curved area (like the back side of your panel) by heating it with a heat gun then push it against the part and let cool. A good source for ABS plastic material to use for gluing and filling in is motorcycle wreckers (they usually have plenty of broken up bits around), some repair shops and of course a plastic supplier if you ave one in the local area. They often have small scraps.
Cheers George
Hey thanks Guys, I'm off to the hardware store to buy myself a birthday present today, so I'll check the plumbing department for ABS glue and stuff. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks mate, if I don't do any good with the ABS glue I'll try to find some of that stuff. Cheers, Terry. ;D
