Trying to make some air filters for a couple of days now. Make something out of nothing
is how I roll, I guess. I'm wishing that I didn't throw the oem air box away. Could have done
something with it. I did save the 4 clamps and those will help. Had some chicken wire I had
left over from making clam rollers.

Made some end caps out of the kneeling pad I cut up earlier. I've been to both hardware stores
on the island and they have no foam at all. I settled for a $1.60 furnace filter because I thought
to was made from poly fiber, at least it felt like it at the store but after I got it home and started
cutting it up realized it was fiberglass. I cut some polyester socks up and wrapped a layer of that
before wrapping the fiberglass. The neoprene strips are for around the carb throat.

This isn't gonna work. The fluttering is gonna work those fibers thru and they'll get sucked up.
I just need these things to last 2 months. The good thing is, it will keep chickens out!
So I'm still looking for some foam. My main idea is to simulate some restriction as the factory air box does
by shortening the opening with the end plug so it runs richer with the jets I have. I'm gonna have a
good list of stuff to buy from Randy once I start making money again.

Do some reading in the files section. A very simple DIY compensation for removing the airbox is shimming the needles. You could remove the main jet and probably never even notice it for a majority of everyday riding and probably for a lot of spirited riding also.
Joe, I hate to say this, but, before you go any further, do a progress fitting.
In doing so, I suspect you will find that those long filters will not fit on your #1 or #4 carbs due to the frame rail.
There is a reason we use the low profile UniPods.

The Dual UniPods are the go, but until you start earning some $$ you could make some filters to tide you over. Try the sewing shops for foam, or maybe anyone who does upholstering. You might even be able to find it in red :-)
If all else fails, even a number of layers of oiled cheesecloth will keep the chickens and frogs outa the workings.

If you use foam make sure it is Open Cell foam, closed cell foam is just that.. Closed.
Joe, i agree with the rest... Uni pods is preferred.
But if you do want, or need a stock airbox, i have one laying in the garage that could be your for the shipping.
I don't need it as I'm on pods... (that sounded weird..) :-)

It's feels good to be able to contribute to this community, regardless if its parts, experience or wisdom. Distances and borders are meant to be crossed :good2: So If my old part can be set to use by others, ill donate it in a heartbeat :good:

Gee, If putting chicken wire on an FJ is making some of you uncomfortable, I apologise. :biggrin: It just so happens I'll be able to get the uni-pods after all. Thank you Ken for the offer. It sure is good to have people help out. Now I'm going sit down and do the seat cover.
