Title: Ultrasonic Cleaner solution
Post by: LA Mike on February 26, 2014, 03:47:08 PM
Its time for that dreaded carb tear down and cleaning! I got a Harbor fgt Ultrasonic cleaner after the last cleaning and now it time to use it.

I did a quick searched here and Google and came across a couple of solutions people have used: Pine-sol, SimpleGreen-HD, Krud Kutter, Baking soda, Dish soap, and Amway-LOC. all but the last can be had at my local stores. The Pine-sol and Krud Kutter have a couple of different types they provide.

So what I trying to find out is people with the Harbor fgt or any ultrasonic unit what solution did they use and have had good success with. I am trying to stay away from something I have to order as I would like to clean have them back on the bike over this weekend.

Thanks,
LA Mike

Have you sent Randy @RPM an email to ask what he uses? I know that a lot of carb parts go through his ultra sonic cleaner.

Thanks George, I'll try this formula. I just saw this used on a youtube video on gun brass with good results

Yea, Mike it's been around the reloading community for a long time.  I have used it without an ultrasonic cleaner on brass and it seems to work the best.  Mix and bottle it with the label "Mikes Super Ultrasonic Cleaner".  Make your second fortune.

Remember Mike to not finish putting the carbs back together so you've a project to squeeze in the morning of the first rally ride.
We know how you love a time pressured challenge.

I recently experimented with several different solutions in my US cleaner and found that straight, undiluted Simple
Green worked better than anything else. Be aware though that it will eat aluminum if parts are left in it too long.
