Hi Everyone,
The executive management convinced me that a trip to Tuscany would be way more fun (ie in the long term) than going to the WCR. The negotiation included timing and attendance for the MOTO GP race. As I understand it, attending MOTOGP in Italy is akin to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs (or the Gold Medal Game I just missed) in Canada.
Any advice on attending from anyone who has ever been would be most welcome....such as:
1) Where is the best place to watch the race?
2) Which ticket package is the best value? Is it better to but general admission or book a seat...there is a huge cost difference.
Any other advice regarding anything?
Thanks,
Jeff
Hi Jeff.
If management suggests you go to Mugello for the moto gp don't argue, GO. While I've never been to Mugello I have attended some races in Europe, got to see Mick Doohan win his first premier class race at the Hungaroring back in 1990 in the days of the 500 2 stroke. Motorsports of any kind are huge events in Europe and a chance to go should not be missed.
Don't just attend the Sunday race but plan for the Sat free practise and qualifying as well. I would buy general admission tickets for the Sat as this would give you a chance to see the whole track and determine where you want to be on Sun. Grandstand seats are pricey but do give you a better view. There will be huge "video walls" scattered around the track so you can view the action at different parts of the track. If you buck up for grandstand seats pick an area that will allow you to see multiple corners. If you can hang out on Sat night at the track be prepared for a serious party.
Sorry to all hockey fans but a European moto gp weekend makes the stanley cup final game look lame.
Enjoy, Hein.
Thanks Hein,
Going for sure....great advice! Got the tickets booked yesterday.
We get the MOTOGP races on TV now and I catch them with the PVR. I have never watch much other motorsports, but MOTOGP is very interesting to watch. Amazing to watch them lay rubber drifting around corners at very high speeds!
I understand MOTOGP is pretty much the biggest spectator sport in Italy; will be a real event for sure.
Jeff
I am sure you will be happy with your decision to go :good2:
I have been to a Formula 1 event and this is same sort or bigger in motorcycle terms.
How long time do you have there in northern italy? I would seriously look into a visit to the Ducati factory in Bologna which is just north of the circuit, I was working for a few days in Bologna and the damn italians did not bother to tell me that the factory was within walking distance from my hotel until few hours before my departure :ireful:
Ok the Ducati is not an FJ but a visit to their factory was number one on the bucket list made by Motorcycle News, a british newspaper magazine, and I will go there someday myself
Ice,
Thanks so much...I will get the factory on my list for sure. In fact I hope to rent a Multistrada for a day as well. The challenge will be What-I-want-to-do versus What-we-have-to-do....Not that it matters too much; I have found in Europe that there is something interesting around every corner.
Keep the ideas coming....
thx,
Jeff
I was at the Assen TT in 2012. The hordes of real motorcyclists are an amazing sight to see. It still blows my mind to think about. 95,000 motorcyclists to see a race. Not bikers, motorcyclists. It was unbelievable. Upon my return I went to the biker rally in Port Dover Ontario/ 100,000 plus bikers. The contrast was sickening. After 20 minutes I left.
Enjoy every minute of it. The atmosphere is unbelievable. The bikes you will see in the parking lots will be awesome as well. I have never seen a sea of real bikes like this before.
Soak it in. You will have the time of your life.
I was at the first ever MOTOGP evening race at Losail, Qatar also. No comparison. Go to Italy.
