gday all, still havent got the bike back from my accident, middle of next week they tell me today, so while i was bored i sold my beloved xj650 and for a couple of extra big ones i got myself the 1st model r1,(red and white) always wanted one but this to me is some sort of investment for down the track(have try at tleast to justify it), 34k on it , looks well looked after, i cant wait to get it in a week or so, went and sat on 1 today to get a bit of a feel for it, once ive lost about 4 or 5 stone we will both be happier. ken

Ken, you could do that, but first I would re read your last post and clarify just who or what you are referring to!
Noel
Mmmmmm, nice Ken. I've never had the pleasure of going for a ride on an R1, ;)
Nice addition to the stable :good2:
gday ray, let me know if you want to, its registered till september.. if i remember correctly, you have the big R on you new leathers. but remember, i had to sacrifice a trusted old member of my family(XJ650) to get it, although im sure i'll recover the second i get my r1

Looks bloody beautiful to me! ....ummmm, still uncomfortable with them little fellas ay! ...Can`t help there, but I`ll give ya a hand ta get rid of any cobwebs on that beast!...will it be home this weekend? :nyam1:
gday doug, i don't get it till the 13th feb, as far as "the little fellas" go i 'll have to hurdle that bridge when i get to it.. hows your bit on the side going?
 Funny you should ask about my bit on the side and the 13th of feb.
I`m taking her to "The Bundy Hospital" on that day.... Let me introduce you to a mechanic that I think epidermises the ability for Aussies ta laugh at themselves.
I introduced him to Ribbert with one of his many Youtube videos. eg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klbObXhE3cI&list=UUu1-chQUurRroTUac8NqLRg&feature=c4-overview, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klbObXhE3cI&list=UUu1-chQUurRroTUac8NqLRg&feature=c4-overview,) before I flew ta Melbourne for fun on the side,..... he too took a liking to him. (Ya might notice why they call him the barefoot mechanic!) I don`t know that a culture different to ours will have the same appreciation I have for these guys, but here goes:-
I had met them at a virtual campfire in november last year through our sister forum for Yamaha XS bikes in Australia. http://xs1100.com.au/forum/index.php. (http://xs1100.com.au/forum/index.php.)
He, wifey and camera man (all great people - In fact all on the site became like brothers,...ya might remember them escorting me outa Sydney via the fantastic putty road....sorry I digress.)... wanted ta catch up for Chrissy, so we met at Pete`s Cafe at Kenilworth along with XS blokes from the Gold Coast, Brissie etc. They rode two up all the way down from Bundaberg (Home of the Drop Bear!) just ta say G`day and then rode home again. Down again ta Brissie 2 days later for a Bon Jovi Concert and ducked inta my mancave on the way back. (Ripped the carbs outa my Virgin XS with his bare hands, colour tuned and carb tuned my beast while Mrs Steptoe spent hours with Dena convincing her how lucky she was to be married to a man of XS persuasion- then they were off again ta Bundy!)...Well, on tha 13th of feb, he wants ta admit me into his Bundy Hospital so we can operate on the Red Chariot (Replacing Cam chain tensioner, Shims, & more that he already has for me!) to ensure she purrs all tha way to Jindabyne with Dena swinging! (all I gotta do is install a fan for Mrs steptoe or I might miss out on prawns at tha BBQ!) ...sorry for the long winded reply ta "what are ya up to" ...time ta get some more firewood! :drinks:

NEXT MANSHED DAY AT KENS!!!!!!!
I wanna ride the R1, :yahoo:
What does it feel like Ken?
I want to ride that beautiful RD350LC. Been a RD fan since I was in highschool. Great handling and pure fun. Still own a couple of air cooled 1973 RD 350's. When they first came out they weren't sold in this country and I seriously considered buying one in Canada and sneaking it across the border. Dave
WOW...I'm happy for you Ken, those are awesome bikes. That Dream brings back memories as I spent a lot of time on my brothers Dream 305. I'd love to ride everyone you got
Nice selection of bikes Ken, keep you busy keeping them shiny.
Nice shed full Ken,, :good2: Read recently, think it was Motor Cycle Trader, first year R1's are becoming collectible, but guess you new that... :i_am_so_happy: Nice bike/bikes...
Cheers Timbo.
thanks again fellas, 1stly ray, if you want to take it out for a blat you have till half way thou March to do it legally at least and yes I'm serious, if you want to give it a go...
i just changed the oil and filter and tomorrow hopefully i wont kill myself on it. lol
hey bones your spot on about keeping them all shiny, its hard enough just to keep all the batts charged and the tyres inflated..
bsi , glad the dream brings back memories, my little 250 runs well but is just to slow today apart from running up to the bakery on a Sunday morning...
terxasdave, cant blame you for wanting to import an elcy, if you've never ridden one before and its in good nick , its something you'll remember
for the rest of you live if you get it on the pipe, ,, you would know that though having had some air cooled ones,,, theres a bit of difference , but its not enormous.
Yep Ken, that is definitely one very cool looking bike. If you ever have a Ken Manshed drag race, I bags the R1. It really is a beautiful looking bike. Can you even remember what bike you got rid of to get it?
I always liked the ridiculousness of a bike that does 100mph in first gear.
I'm sure in time you will having it looking like it just rolled out the showroom door.
Noel
Dynamite collection. Love the LC, one of my favorite rides. Bought one in Canada and brought back to US in early 80's to race in WERA series of Endurance Races. Yours looks mint...can you give a little history, mileage etc. BTW, the guy I bought my '85 FJ from this past Fall had a 305 Dream sitting in his field of outcasts surrounding his home, not to mention the 50, not a typo... FIFTY Datsun 2000's. He'll do trades for just about anything interesting.
Rick
Fifty Datsun 2000? The guys sitting on a gold mine. They're starting to be quite collectable. I believe Jay Leno even owns one. Dave
gday noel, needs some tidying up but not a lot, i reckon to get it how i want it will be about a grand, all cosmetic,
rd56, i got the rd about 5 years ago as a father /son resto, it was in a sorry state, been out in the weather for 18 months, i ended up doing a full nut and bolt on it,
cost a small fortune. it had 1.5mm o/s pistons in it and i had to bore it out to 2mm ,about the limit. lets just say the rebore was a bit sloppy and it lasted 350km's, anyway ive tracked down another set of barrels but havent put it back together yet. no idea on milage ,but it had a hard life i'd say..
I want to ride the Aprillia RSV4...
Dan
Heres a nice little review of your new Superbike Ken 1998 Yamaha YZF R1 Review (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRoBnq6DHfQ#)
You've picked up a LOT of bike for not a lot of money :drinks:
Thanks for that Ray, i noticed he said it comes alive around 7-7500rpm.
Thats about as high as ive had the revs too and i couldnt imagine wanting to
take it much further than that especially when everything around you becomes a blur
while your concentrating on the black stuff ahead of you,, it makes the fj feel like a big old tractor,
but having said that it's made me appreciate the fj even more ,, imagine what those hayabusa's or the
new 1400 ninja's are like, see ya ,ken
A bloke at work bought a zx1400 a couple of months ago, and is always raving on about how mental it is power and speed wise. Last weekend he pinned it in top gear doing 100 KMH, counted to 6, looked down and was doing over 200 KMH. Plenty quick enough, and I'd say would leave the FJ far behind in a race.
