Title: Classic Bike racing at Phillip Island
Post by: mr blackstock on January 25, 2014, 09:06:48 AM
At the last minute I got a call from a mate for a quick ride down to Phillip Island on the 25th to see some classic bike qualifying for sunday's racing.  left around 4 in the morning, got to the Island, watched racing and walked the pit lane for three hours then headed home.

Sore bum, no sleep, night shift when I got home.  a purring FJ1100, 800kms on a sunny day-priceless.

Interesting side comment, i filled up with fuel at the caltex near the island, bike ran terribly-more vibration than usual, even coughed at idle.  Filled up again 250kms later at shell, less vibration, running sweet.  Both petrol stations I filled up with 95 octane.

Went to the classic a few years ago. Rode down from Brisbane on my VFR and returned via the high country. Great to see some of my boyhood heroes - Wally Campbell, Rob Phillis as well as Steve Martin, Cam Donald etc. great racing on one of the best circuits in the world, getting up close and personal in the pits, laid back atmosphere and some fantastic machinery. Highly reccommended
