Title: Saying "Hi" from London
Post by: redone on January 23, 2014, 09:04:49 AM
Hi, I'm Denis and I live in London unfortunately. I own 2 XJR 1300's. One is a 2000 model and the other is a 2002 model. I bought the 2002 one in 2004 with 1,450 miles on the clock, after one year it had 10,500 miles on the clock, today it has 144,330 miles on the clock and is in the process of being dismantled and sold off. The other one had 21,475 miles on the clock when I got it last February. It now has 39,500 miles on the clock. So you can see I like to ride my bikes. I'm not one of these people that hide it away when the weather turns a bit. :good2:
I ride my bike all year round and that is one reason why I do not spend lots of money making it look flash and shiney. No point when it's out in all weathers. Here are a couple of pics of them and some of the things I have done to them.

I think it was because of the beating that Yamaha took with the original FJ replacement the GTS1000.  It was a nice bike, but not many people were willing to shell out the $10K asking price in 1994.

Yamaha initially had no intention of importing the FJR in the US until riders practically made them do it.  Then they reluctantly agreed by requiring you to special order one and put down a deposit.  Dealers were allocated 2 FJRs, if they wanted more than that they had to show customer orders.  Just shows how disconnected the manufacturer can be from its customers.  They rely on focus groups that apparently just want stupid cruisers.

Thanks guy's for the welcome.
Being English and only visited the States whilst in the merchant navy, I do not get to see first hand how the bike market is over there. All I get to see is the bike programs on the television. Although everyone knows America is Harley dominated, there are quite a few "proper" bikers there. I've heard several people say it's a shame they didn't introduce the XJR as it has to be the best "fun" muscle bike ever made and with the roads you have over there, it is an XJR owners heaven. If I had the money, I would love to travel through the States on my XJR, but if that wasn't possible, then an FJR would be the next best thing. Here's some photo's of an FJR on last years plate with 5,000 miles on the clock. I was tempted to buy it

Hi CanDman, do you know, I never looked at my "name" that way. Hmmm perhaps I have been re-done  :mocking:
Will not be too active on here simply because the difference in bikes and what can be done with them, but I have already got some info that will help me change my clutch and fit a Barnett clutch when the weather get's better. One of your members is also a member on our site here and he led me to this site to help me do the job correctly. Even so, I will be popping in to have a trawl through some of your forum's to see what's happening your side of the drink(Atlantic).
Keep the rubber side down.  :good2:
