Title: Happy New Year to all from NZ
Post by: NZ FJ Rider on January 01, 2014, 02:19:51 AM
First New Years Resolution.....apply to join the "fjowners".
Hi all, I have looked in occasionally over the past year and have picked up heaps. I have a 1986 FJ1200 with a mind of her own, so have found this group to be a great help.
She currently goes very well for 10 to15 minutes at time... then she doesn't. Will write the entire saga soon but for now Happy New Year and stay safe.
Regards
Brian

Welcome and also have a happy new year ! Your problem sounds familiar. A shot across the bow on the problem without more info is possably a vacuum developing in your fuel tank due to a faulty valve in the fuel refill cap. The fix is commonly referred to as a "flapectomy". The test is, when it starts to run poorly to crack open the fuel cap and if it clears up then you know it's in the valve. Another cause of fuel restriction is not routing the fuel lines exactly as Yamaha spec's on the gravity feed models.
I am just shooting in the dark. Things to ponder. Looking forward to you posting more on your problem. Lots of help here.  :good2:

Pesky is a polite word for it. Took me a few months time and running out of fuel with a full tank many times to have enough clues. Then I performed the suck test and sure as $#!! the vacuum was leaking bad. It also did not help that when performing the Flapectomy I installed the white plastic piece that had the flaps in upside down.  :dash2: :dash2: :dash2:. So if you take the flaps out, just take out the white plastic piece and not just remove the flappers.
