Title: Boxing Day Races
Post by: Rat Fink on December 29, 2013, 05:15:51 PM
Just returned from the races at Boxing day Races at Wanganui. A 411 km blast down the centre of the island. A day of watching a bunch of crazy racers ,including Guy Martin, race around the streets inches away from power poles, concrete curbs etc. Then a 700 km blast up the west coast to home.
A wonderful 3 day jaunt, I loved every minute, despite running out of gas, losing my bank card and dropping the bike on a gravel track down to at an isolated beach. The bike is almost undamaged just a few scratches on the fairing. Time for a paint job.
I now know that my bike does exactly 190km on a full tank and its exactly 200km from my local gas station to Taumaranui. Of course since there were hundreds of bikers on the road, some unfortunate enough to be in cars There was no lack of people stopping with offers of help. Its so great to be be part of a fraternity that is always ready to help each other out.
A truly wonderful experience, and my first decent journey on the FJ. After reading all the useful info on this site I decided to get the carbs balanced before leaving as I had found vibrations were very hard on my hands. The balancing made a huge difference and I did the whole journey with no problems. I still plan to fit some Vibranators for even more comfort.
I really loved my bike before the trip and now love it even more. Started planning my next journey already.

You may have other issues with your carbs if you can only get 190kms out of a tank of fuel. Even when riding hard, I get around 250-270 kms.  Pete.
