Hello, i know there are several topics out there regarding top end performance parts (i.e. cams, valvetrain) but im having trouble locating any definite answers on camshaft selection, or for that matter where to buy cams. can anyone help me? my radian needs a few more ponies im not looking to make it a hairy tempermental pile of $h!^ but 150hp doesnt sound outta line.. with my drag bar on i can beat my buds 09 r6 to 100 but not in the 1/4.. any suggestions?

Get a bigger bike. :hi:
No, sorry mate, just having a laugh. That's a nice looking bike you've got there. The only thing I can suggest is a big bore kit.
lol you should see me on it lmao! im 6'1.. but yes im planning on it, Im probably going to go with the wiseco 1219 big bore with 10.something:1 comp. but im gonna be smoothin some junk outta the ports and i figured now is a good time to cam er' up. i've been having a hard time finding a dealer for magacycle cams was reading mixed reviews on them so i wanted some prices

BAD reviews with magacycle. Contact Randy at RPM. He is as straight and honest as they come and has had a ton of experience when it comes to FJ engines.
He is a member here.

Suddenly i'm reminded of the colorado rally a few years back when a guy turned up on a turbo hayabusa. It looked pretty fancy, got humiliated by the fjs in the corners, then blew past me on the straightaway and disappeared as I hit the throttle stop. It was amazing.

RPM and APE have all the parts you will need to build an FJ motor.
Most important question - what's your budget?
In my opinion the first big performance limiter is the carbs. Followed closely by the head.
If it were me, I'd do the following mods in this order:
Carbs
Port the head (if sending it out to be done, bite the bullet and go with big valves too)
Mild cams (stay with shim over bucket)
Then big bore - and I'd look at 1349 cc (although 1219 is cheaper since don't have to replace the liners, I think you get more for your $$ with the larger displacement). If you want to keep the budget down and not do the big bore, you could get a little more compression by having the head skimmed while its off and work your gasket thicknesses the get the quench height down too.
Best move first is to drop Randy at RPM an email and ask his advice.

Drag race a lot? Make sure the transmission is undercut! And consider nitriding the crank...
Pay attention to that backbone frame on the Radian...
The output from a beefy tostada FJ engine will twist it like a pretzel.
Pat - reminds me of a guy I knew growing up that dropped a V8 in a Vega. He also knew a little about suspension and could hook it up on launch...but he had troubles keeping a windshield in it. When he hooked on a hard launch the torque would twist the body enough to crack the windshield!
Gotta love the torque!

Had an MG TD when I was a teenager and put a small block Chevy in it..... It had limitations.................. A lot of limitations... Lessons learned along the way, couldn't afford a good education, had to settle for the school of hard knocks and lesson's learned. The good news is that I still have some to learn... :good2:
