Title: Just received and installed the RPM Smoked tail light.
Post by: aviationfred on December 18, 2013, 06:18:10 PM
Just installed the new RPM smoked tail light with integrated turn signals on my 87' 1TX. I am extremely pleased with the result.

The OEM stock tail light

You must live on wooded acreage, like me.
Your garage floor looks EXACTLY like mine!  :good2:
No matter how much I sweep up the leaves, every time the garage gets opened, more leaves blow in. They must not like the cold. :ireful: :flag_of_truce:

I've never understood that concept... but it's true!

I was just doing some cleaning out there for the upcoming NYE and Super Bowl parties, and there were a LOT of 'em.

There's not all that many trees right around here, though.  :unknown:

Yep, it is a direct replacement for the stock light.

One thing to note about Randy's tail light kit, is that it doesn't come with any resistors.  This is only an issue if you want to retain the OEM flash rate and/or the self canceling function.

If you do decide to install resistors, I would recommend avoiding resistors of this type of design:

In my case, one of the resistors in the pack I bought, had a broke wire inside the black (shrink wrapped) section.  The local shop that I purchased them from, had a replacement pack, but here in lies the warning. The replacement pack also had a resistor with a broken wire in it.  they gave me the good resistor out of that pack and I ended up reinforcing those sections of wire by using a small nail and shrink tubing as a splint.

Eventually I installed Rizoma rear turn signals to work along side the integrated turn signals and they came with these type of resistors:

This made the original resistors redundant and allowed me to remove them.  The nice thing about this type, is that you don't have to hack up your wiring harness.  Also, though the above are the ones that come in Rizoma's kits, similar ones are available from various sources.
