Title: fender options
Post by: FJscott on November 28, 2013, 11:40:23 AM

I did the GSXR wheel mod, 3.5 x 17 front 5.5 x 17 rear. naturally the front fender tabs are
broken and I know I can ABS weld them however, is there another fender option out there?
the other thing is with the new tire( 120/60/17 conti-motion) having a lower profile the larger
distance between tire and fender looks...funky :negative:

not a single post 89' front fender for sale on the net that I could find and if there was I would
still have the gap. just by looking at the pics an early model FZ1 looks like it might work

Check on this thread using a Bandit fender http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=10063.msg96828#msg96828 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=10063.msg96828#msg96828)
Also new front fenders are still available. Probably not the color you want but they are available. 70.00 - 140.00 range.
If you do a parts search check on an 84 -86 or 87 fenders they are the same fender, different colors... They will fit 89 and newer FJ's.

I don't know if this link will work for you but give it a try there are a couple of bikes here with Bandit fenders on.

Let me know if you can figure out how to adapt a better fender. The FJ looks good but those tabs are a weak point. I rebuilt/repaired mine but wouldn't mind replacing it with something a little different.

Hope it helps out.
George

I know a few owners have used Suzuki Bandit front fenders.

Also there are a few used FJ front fenders at http://powaymotorcycle.com/gallery/yamaha/YamahaFJ1314.html (http://powaymotorcycle.com/gallery/yamaha/YamahaFJ1314.html)

Scott,  check out the first post on this thread. http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=5770.15 (http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=5770.15) I've had the fender on and off 2 times this year and it is holding up very well with no sign of cracks.  I think that Play doe would work for the mold.

I put the RPM brace on but didn't put a washer in the space where the reflector tab was...Doh!

I should of picked up on that when I removed the reflector.

Scott,

As already mentioned, the Bandit fender fits on the FJ with some modifications. Here is the photos provided from Antonn3 of his installation;

The new front portion of the fenders are readily available but just not is all colors anymore. They are currently only available in red (AJ) and a metallic black and I have them both listed here; Front Fender. (http://rpmracingca.com/proddetail.asp?prod=M%2FC%3AFJFF)

Thanks Randy & Hein.

I'm liking the look of the Bandit fender so just ordered a pristine one off ebay for $39.
I'll have to paint it but Im painting the purple section of my 92 metallic black.
going with a black/silver with blue stripes to go with the Black GSXR wheels with
blue wheel stripe, blue dot calipers. Ill post some pics when completed.

On those Bandit fenders you might keep an eye out for the front fender extender they look pretty good.
