Hey guys new to this got myself a 88 FJ1200 And after some info if possible, the bike has been dropped on the left side and the previous owner crapped himself so he sold it to me can anyone tell me what year FJ can I use to replace stock exhaust can. Are they all interchangeable or only certain years, anyway thanks for your help in advance...better get to restoring the bike before wifey throws everything out while I'm at work..she's done that before.
Cheers,
Teabag
Some 88's are the 86/87 year and other countries they are the 89's. Most likely you have an 89'. What is the first 3 characters of your VIN?
The OEM exhaust cans are not interchangeable with all models.
84'-87' will interchange
88'-90' will interchange
91'-96' will interchange
The 88' and 94'-96' were not sold in the US.

Mostly in Great Britain and Europe the year of the FJ is not talked about. Instead people use letter codes. 1TX refers to 86'-87'. 3CV/3CW refers to 88'-90' and 3XW/3YA refers to 91'-96'.
There are some tell tale signs concerning the years of the 1200's. on the 86'-87' 1200's the windscreen goes down almost to the headlight and has a square lower edge. The 88'-90' 1200's windscreen is rounded at the bottom edge and the fairing has a pronounced step below the air scoop. The 91'-96' 1200's have a trapezoid looking headlight.
Here is a photo of a 87' (Black) and 89' (White). Your 88's fairing should look like the 89' (White)

Fred, where did you find a black '87?!?!? Is that a custom paint job? It looks beautiful! I would have been sure it was an '89 if you hadn't said otherwise, but looked at the right blinker, you're right--definitely an '86/'87.

Kyle,
The PO painted the bike Satin Black. I installed the Gold/Silver 89' graphics.

Fred any chance of sending a picture of the black bike The picture posted only shows a small amount and I would like to get a good look at it as the one I have is same colour but not mat finish and as I will be repainting the bike the mat finish on your bike looks great just want to get a better look at it if possible at all.

Mines been flat black for 10+ years now. I've used Rustoleum "high performance" flat black. For a cleaner you can use Windex (basic window cleaner) and "polish" it with WD-40 on a rag.
Most recent version...

Note - don't know for sure you have access to these particular brand products, but whatever is locally available should give good results. Good prep work is still important wih spray paints. Also, they may not be as durable as traditional paints, but are a lot easier to touch up or repair.
Post pics when you're done!
Chris, that looks bad ass.....
But what is wrong with the forks...?
Uh oh, let us pray...

Gold is a much better chick magnet than matt black, especially when it comes down to USD forks. :i_am_so_happy: Pete.

Gold is a much better chick magnet than matt black (or any other color), especially when it comes down to Gold.

The lower cowling came with the bike when I purchased it. The brand is Lockhart Phillips which no longer produces aftermarket for the FJ's. Here is a link for a fiberglass unpainted lower fairing for your 88'

what swingarm is that you've fitted?
Swingarm is a first gen FZ1(think it is called the Fazer in some markets). The instructions should be in the files section. Also take a look at www.fjmods.co.uk/ (http://www.fjmods.co.uk/) lots of great info there.
Rear ride was changed using DIY shorter dogbones made from steel plate. These have two sets of holes - other set lowers it for drag racing (haven't used that set in a while).
