Title: AN ooooooerrrrrrr moment
Post by: ELIMINATOR on November 01, 2013, 01:34:45 PM
Out on the FJ in the rain, pulled onto a dual carriage way, in third, 70 ish mph, decided to open the throttle wide, sudden rise in revs, followed by a minor slide. I wasn't expecting that to happen, quite amusing really, though I doubt if there will be a deliberate repeat. :good:

What tire?

You can do it in 5th at 100mph on a Shinko 003.

Or so I hear.  :)

What the heck is a 'dual carriage way'???
Don't tell me you Brits are still riding carriages!

Did something like that the other morning going too work. It was upper thirties out. Pulling out from my favorite stop sign (left turn). While still a little laid over from the turn. I whacked the throttle to ride a wheelie out of the turn. Like I always do (:nice brushed concrete). And spun the tire so hard I almost lowsided it. Then when backed off I almost highsided it. Didn't even think about the tire being rock hard from the cold. What a dumb ass I am sometimes.

HWY to you. but only 2 lanes going in each direction. They drive on the oposite side as well.

I'm still running 12,000-mile touring tires from my big trip.  The Metzeler ME880 Marathons got me through a lot of states and quite a few provinces and I'm somewhat attached to them.  Now, when I'm just kicking around the local mountains, it's VERY obvious to me that they don't have much grip at all until you get some heat into them.

I pull out of my driveway and down my road that's usually covered with the detritus from the many pepper trees.  Onto the next road and if I get on the throttle at all in the first turn, the back end will come around on me.  It's so predictable now that I roll the throttle gently on that first turn every time TO get some heat into that rear tire!  Exciting times!  I'm putting new sticky rubber on now that my riding is more local and I'll be doing more like 5,000 per year instead of 5,000 per month!

Tyre is an Avon Azaro.

Mine is a pilot road 3 usually plenty warm by the time I get to that stop. But I didn't think about the pavement being cold not letting the tire warm up.
