Just finished my first post and already have a response to one of my questions. I mentioned this in my post but will reiterate how pleased I am to see the level of expertise coming from the members...great job. I grew up around airplanes and loved anything with an engine. Started racing go carts in the early 60's, Bug and Simplex carts with Clinton and McCulloch chain saw engines. My brother was an idiot savant tuner and we won just about everything we raced. Started riding on a 500cc Triumph that had been damaged in a fire and rebuilt. My older brother bought a 650cc BSA Spitfire Mk II Special with those iconic Amal GP carbs. He got drafted, so I grabbed all his leather goods and open faced Bell Helmet and conquered the world on his BSA. Pretty amazing bike when you're 16. My first bike was a 1968 Yamaha 350 Grand Prix.
The next M/C chapter involved WERA road racing in the early 80's. We traveled all over the East Coast racing two stroke Yamahas. Got into some endurance racing in the early 80's and had the Number 1 Endurance Racing Team in WERA's Modified 500cc class. The reason we won: We had a Yamaha 350LC newly imported from Canada which would run all day long. Everybody else blew up their highly modified bikes. Just competent riders on a great bike, what a combo.
Live in Northern VA near Leesburg, and would love to hear from any FJ owners in the area.
To cut a long story short, bikes I've owned over the years, pretty much chronological order:
196? Triumph 500
1968 Yamaha 350 Grand Prix
Yamaha TD1-B
Several Yamaha RD 350's
Yamaha 350 LC Canadian
1982 Ducati 900cc Darmah
1983 Yamaha XJ 900
Bultaco 125cc Streaker
1968 Triumph Daytona
1985 Yamaha FJ1100
