Title: Extracted broken frame cradle bolt
Post by: rktmanfj on October 17, 2013, 03:21:04 PM

I'd been fretting about working on this ever since the ECFR, but finally got around to working on it.

After drilling a pilot hole through it, the next size turned it right out.  The Harbor Freight left-hand drill set saved the day... $7.50 well spent.   :good2:

The corresponding bolt on the other side of the frame appeared to also be broken, but was only working it's way out.  The top two were fine.  I know some here have drilled these out to 10mm, but is there anything wrong with just replacing them with higher grade screws?

Glad you got it out with no problems  :good2: :good2: . I think if the threads are good I would just locate some high grade 10mm bolts, torque to spec. and monitor.  :morning2:

Nothing wrong at all...On hex heads use (grade) 10.9 and with Allen socket heads ask for (grade) 12.9

Congrats on the left hand drill extraction :i_am_so_happy:
