Hey guys (and gals). I did the FZR front wheel swap and blue dot/spot calipers. I'm also using the R1 master that came with the calipers. My question to you all is, does anyone have the lengths of the brake hoses I need? I'm going to run both calipers to the master (no splitter). Thanks in advance!

Depends on how you want to route them. I have seen some here that run to the left of the bars then back and down. I have mine (2 line) following the original route, angled down from the m/c and fixed where the splitter was. The best thing is to decide where you want them to run and measure it yourself (with the forks fully extended). A search here will come up with different lengths.
Just beware, I initially used one of these sites listing FJ specific lines and the ones that turned up I could have looped around my neck. I checked they had sent the right parts and they had. I then measured and had them made to my own length.

I just bought a set of braided lines for my 89' with Blue Dot calipers and a VFR800 master cylinder. I ordered standard length FJ lines. The length and banjo fitting angles work perfect. I have them routed the same as the '2 Lines Alternative' in Noel's routing photo.

I used a DIY kit and made my own 2-line, over the fender lines. Forget who makes the kit, but it included plenty of hose, banjos and washers. 10 or so years later and they still hold pressure....
Here's another option. (I installed Blue-spots about six weeks ago, aaahh....)
Do you live in a larger town/city? You can probably do this too:
I was hesitant to order "custom" lines from Spiegler because of the no-return policy. (Used an FZ-1 master.)
So I took my old lines into the local hydraulic/oil filter supply place in the industrial area downtown. Put them on the counter and said "Match these." (Plus or minus an inch or so and with different fittings for the new parts.) The counter guy just took them back to the stockroom and came back three minutes later with the adjusted length hoses and new fittings. Said as long as I didn't put fluid in them I could return them if the lengths were off.
Yes, had to swap one, my guess was off by 1/2". They stock Goodridge hoses in 1" increments from eight inches or so up to 40".
I've done this to two bikes now, it works well, it's quick, and I don't have the mail-order hassle. Not much cheaper really, but...
Try asking around, I find the guys at NAPA are usually very sharp, and can usually point me in the right direction even if I don't know how to phrase the question.

Raymond is looking for the following information, and he will cut for you any line you want, (and it is cheap):
- Line length, measured from the banjo hole to the other banjo hole
- Banjo fitting angle; this is the angle of the fitting; it is available in straight, 15 degree, 45 degrees and maybe 90.
- Fitting orientation; what is the angle between the two banjo fittings. 0 degree means that the banjo fittings are at the same orientation.
- Color; lots to chose from.
I am about to do new lines for: R1 calipers, and VFR 800 (2000) Master. I will provide you with a write up about my lines the way I send them to Raymond.

I just ordered a pair of custom length lines from Spiegler & they turned out great. These lines are for a hybrid project bike that I'm working on with a different front end on it & a Ducati Monster master cylinder. I used one of those yellow sewing type of tape measures & measured from the caliper port, up the fork leg & over to the master cylinder port. I routed each line down each fork leg & ended up with one line approximately 6" longer than the other. I requested a 90 degree banjo fitting on the master cylinder ends & a 30 or 35 degree banjo fitting on the caliper ends. I added an inch or two to my measured lengths (I can't recall now which of the two) and everything fit real nice. Make sure that you really take the time to measure correctly, then do it again. The custom lines are non returnable.

Also make sure that you order a new two line Banjo bolt for your master cylinder.

I forgot to mention... Place your bike on its center stand & make sure that the fork legs are fully extended when you take your measurements.
If you don't have a sewing tape measure, you can use a length of wire or twine to run from the caliper port to the master cylinder port, then measure the length of the wire or twine. Make sure you add an inch or two. Its better to be a tad too long than to be too short.
I prefer to have custom lines made up. This allows me to route the lines however I like.

A piece of Romex works well for this...
Ok, well I just ordered my lines from Rennsportautoparts. Lines, banjos, and crush washers for $69.80 shipped, can't beat that. Carsick bought from them and had no complaints so I gave it a try. I went with 31" and 33", I'll let you all know how it goes (fitment and performance).
Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on the lines. I still haven't actually "used" them but I did install them. The fitment was perfect (in my opinion), no major slack but enough to keep them from stretching when the forks are fully extended. I went with the swivel ends, which I think worked well with the constant movement as you ride. Anyway, a thumbs up from me for these lines and the price was right! :good2:

Looking to order a set myself but Rennsportautoparts recommends against the swivel fittings (not as strong) and wants to know the angle of each banjo and measured length.
can anyone offer that info up?
I'll be doing blue dots/dual lines (one each side of wheel) and a double banjo on the master (likely will be getting VFR800 lever/mc). no bar-risers in the forseeable future.

I have a set of the Rennsport lines with the adjustable fittings on one end. They work very well and haven't had any problems with them. Had to do a panic stop last year to avoid a deer and they sure better than the stock rubber. If you can talk to Raymond there and he will set you up . He is a good guy to deal with. Big R ( oh, I also scale at 240 so along with the bike that is a lot)
:hi: I installed a full set of 'Red' Rennsport lines on my '85...2 x front lines, 2 x anti-dive, rear brake line and the complete clutch line. Works way better than the old oem stuff and looks great to :good2:
Raymond Chan is a really easy going, patient, great guy to deal with...on the phone or in person :good2:
Try the 'search' mode...I put up information regarding line length, banjo angle, etc... :drinks:
