hi guys, let me start off with a simple rundown. i got this bike with 60K miles on it and ran great. it now has almost 80k still always runs great, however when i tool it out the 2nd to last time i noticed a tick... then the last time i took it out there was a big knock..... it doesnt sound like the lower end it sounds like the timing chain slapping around... could be wrong but ill start there LOL
all this leads me to my question, how do you tighten the timing chain? how do you replace the timing chain. a simple rundown would be fine as i do have a general knowledge of the bike and i was a car, boat and diesel mechanic for several years. all help will be greatly appreciated!
When is it making the noise? Idle, 1/8 throttle, 1/2 throttle? If your idle is set low the FJ engine noisier than it should be.
at 900~RPM its quiet (sounds normal) the higher the RPM the louder
It has an automatic tensioner that is below the carbs. Unless that is broken or someone replaced it with a manual tensioner it should adjust itself.
The chain to the starter is more likely suspect on these engines.

.....and,I believe there isnt anything to be done about that...without splitting the cases, correct?
that doesn't sound fun at all, maybe i will still be better off to put the 94 FZR-1 motor on it then. i cant let the ol girl die... i have a 92 ZX11R and a 00 929 and neither of them ride like the FJ!
