I did some searched about this, looked through my clymer manual, and on partszilla to see how it all goes together, but I pulled the bolts off the front mounts and got the bushings out to grease them, and when I bolted it all back together, that bolted on big spacer bar that goes from the right frame to the left frame. the nut for it on the left side turned in way father than it used to be, and now there's lots more threads showing than there was. I can't figure out if I put something in wrong or what. The two rubber bushings that the bar goes through seem to be on as per the schematic in partszilla, so I don't know what's wrong.
Maybe I just turned it too tight?

When you tighten the nut on that spacer bolt, there doesn't seem to be anything to bolt up against, so it just squeezes the two frame rails in... does anyone know if that's right? Anyone who's pulled a motor?

I saw your post last night and figured someone else would jump in... I just pulled the chin fairing off my '92 to take a look and there is a sleeve in between the two rubber motor mounts.
Take a look at this:

It's part number 90560-12374-00 but is listed as no longer available if yours is missing. The entire assembly would go something like:
bolt:frame:mount::::::::::::::::::::::sleeve::::::::::::::::::::::::mount:frame:nut
That would allow you to torque the bolt/nut down without distorting the frame.

I looked at partszilla last night and I can't see any parts that are missing... I don't understand why I was able to keep tightening the nut on the spacer bolt way past what it was when I took it off. And I'm afraid I'm pinching the two frame rails together, but it seems the motor mounts should keep that from happening...
There is a tube between the mounting brackets that your bolt goes thru....just like the tube between your axle bearings....the tube keeps the mounting points from squeezing together when you tighten the thru bolt.
Have you installed this spacer tube?
I thought I did, I saw the spacer when I took it apart, and thought it was weird there was only one on the bolt head side. I put it in the right side hole where the spacer bolt went through, but I'll check it again...
Well, now I'm confused... Did my previous post come through? The one where I clipped the microfiche diagram and drew in a red arrow to the middle sleeve? There is only supposed to be one. Is that installed?

If that part (90560-12374-00) is NLA, it could be duplicated by a piece of 1/2" EMT conduit, or something similar. On my '89, it was a pretty non-exotic piece. The only rub would be the length. Someone that has one (Ron???) might be able to assist on that front.

OK, now I feel like an idiot... Just went out to the garage and checked.
That tube your red arrow is pointing at is laying down on the exhaust pipes... it must have fell out when I pulled the long spacer bolt out and didn't notice it with the mounts falling down when the bolt came out...
I just thought it was the bolt.
I feel so stupid... :blush:
I'll pull the bolt and put the spacer in tomorrow. Will only take about 5 minutes. Glad it didn't fall out with the riding I did today.

I thought the same thing Ed...While I had things apart, I measured the spacer in anticipation of "Ahhhhh...mine is missing!" Glad it worked out otherwise (much easier).

Don't feel embarassed...we've all been there. I've looked for a part for a whole weekend, ordered a new one...waited a week, installed it...then found it in the pocket of my jeans a day later.

Just got it back on with the help of my daughter on one side prying out the frame with a screw driver against the block and me prying on the other side. It was just a smidge too tight to get the spacer back in without a little spreading of the frame rails.
Bolted it all up tight, and tomorrow I'll see if the vibrations are less.
Seems like they really went away above 3000, and that was without the spacer in.
