Hey big guy, I recall in the past where you were mentioning your big motor along with the lightened crank was a handful (ball smasher?) on decelleration....

I read this a couple of weeks ago when I joined the FJ-uk group. I contacted Sigma who advised they built this for the XJR1300. I spoke with Neil and told him all of the clutches were the same from the beginning of the FJ1100 and he advised it should work without issue. The price is pretty steep at close to $1000.00 plus tax (VAT) & shipping.
I am still in conversation with Neil regarding the ability of the unit to handle horsepower & load. My goal is to try and obtain one for some testing and maybe be able to some sort of group purchase to help deter some of the cost.

I looked through their site a few months back. I was able to find multi-stage clutches for a drag bike, but nothing indicating slipper clutches. But, I will look again.

AHHHHHHH..... that looks tits.....of course now that i have the DRZ SM i dont really ride the FJ as aggressively in the twisties as i used to.....still..... it would be very trick to have wouldnt it? :biggrin:

I would be more than willing to be a test pig.... brutus is putting solid 115lb /ft to the rear wheel.... either the clutch can handle it or it cant.

You know, the first gen R1 used the exact same clutch as the FJ, except is used all large plates. I wonder if the later model R1 changed it or if it is still compatible?

I guess I'm a little unclear why you want the slipper, if its drag racing then that works, for street I dont understand, I run full barnett kit and springs on my kz and its in the mid 180 hp range, and it doesn't slip if I don't want it to.

LMAO.... its all good brother.... a slipper clutch doesnt slip on acceleration...... its designed to slip when the backtorque of the engine ( when downshifting) would normally cause the rear tire to break traction and either hop or slide (can you say highside?) ... like if you pulled in the clutch at high RPMs... downshifted two gears and then just dumped the clutch while still at high speed..... a slipper clutch would release at that point and let the engine and drivetrain work independantly until such time as either you got back on the throttle or the engine torque and rear wheel speed match back up as the bike speed decreases..... could also save ones ass should the wrong gear be selected via too many downshifts going into the corner.
the beauty of them is they are adjustable so you can tune them to suit your riding style.... all the way from freewheeling into the corner to locked up completely.
i dont really need one as i have become accustomed to the performance of my engine and just ride it with a gentle hand........ lest i be weighed, measured.... and found wanting.
but still cool nonetheless and definitely fun to mess with :biggrin:
ahhh, well the kz is 99% drag only so its doesnt go on the curves very often, thats why ive come back to fj's the best of all worlds without killing you with one feature over all others

slipper clutches were designed for road racing motorcycles... when the rider needs to bang multiple gearshifts and let out the clutch without the bike doing anything funny in the turn (like spit him off)....
the benefit is having the bike in the right gear (with clutch out) for the drive out of the turn before ever entering the turn.
i rode a ZX10 with a slipper clutch and it definitely is a benefit in the twisties.... it allowed me to ride the bike smoother at higher RPMs.. which is where those bikes make their power.
for my FJ, which has a lightened crank, a slipper clutch could help with the lightening fast deceleration that happens when i close the throttle from high RPM ...which then causes my weight to transfer forward.... resulting in my junk getting smashed up againt the tank lest i have a firm grip with my knees...which i normally do.... the slipper clutch would/could absorb most (all? depending on tuning) of the torque that normally goes straight to the back wheel.... .so a slipper would help in keeping the bike more stable (less weight transfer) on deceleration.
there is no problem with my acceleration :good2:

XJR and FJ clutch are same same......all years...... thats why i'm looking at this option.
just like the FZ1 front end.... yamaha doesnt change a whole lot of parts that it doesnt have to...and if they do change them it isnt that much ..... and they definitely know how to go into the parts bin whenever they can..... i "think" the slipper clutch for the R1 will work....expensive gamble for sure but i think the odds are in my favor on this one.
i might have to give it a go just for grins and giggles. :i_am_so_happy:

A new front end is a fair way along my saving up for agenda at the moment.......a Penske for the back comes first.
