Your bike looks mint.  How's the buffeting on the new screen? Good protection?

Thanks for the compliments. There is a significant improvement in buffeting over the stock screen.

Don't think so :). Look at the dip in the screen where the mirrors mount. 88 - 90 screen I think is what you need.

Hey guys I love the look of this windscreen but I'm worried it's going to be over my eyes. I'm 5'7". Does it go up that high? Any thoughts?  Anyone who ordered this have a problem seeing?

Tex,
I can't answer for the 91'-93' flip screen. I have the Powerbronze 89'-90' flip screen and I am 5'7". My field of vision is above the windscreen.

I just recently received my new one from Twisted Throttle. It's a MRA with a spoiler. It fits great and looks great. Right now it's about 5 degrees out so I won't be testing her out anytime soon.  :drinks:

I ordered the iridium blue for my 92. I liked the performance of the extended flip screen but it made the bike look like the head of Marge Simpson

Ill keep it for any extended super-slab trips during the buggy months but I ordered a stock size in iridium blue.
I was impressed with the quality and fit. its a good screen

Nice ! I think the spoiler model is one of the better ones. I ordered a MRA Touring screen from Twisted Throttle. Expecting it sometime later this month. Leon has one on his bike.
Can't beat the price on the Power Bronze and that's with shipping... I wish Zero Gravity made a "Double Bubble" model for the FJ. I had a old Double Bubble laying around from another bike and set it on top my screen and it looked real sharp. Wish full thinking...

I ordered my MRA screen Dec 6. Twisted Throttle has been real good about keeping me informed. I knew it was going to take some extended time before I ordered it. If you can get a hold of one they have a nice catalog.

Mmmmmmmm, great info! I found there is a Powerbronze supplier in Australia (still have to get in from the UK though), and the standard screen is a pretty reasonable $115.00. My current screen is has spiderweb cracks around some screw holes and has millions of fine scratches, a new one sounds good, standard not the "Marge" model,  :good2:

funny right after I got done wining about when it would show up...it showed up. lol I was kind of cringing hoping the colors would match with the dark blue almost black color and gold but actually was pleasantly surprised. Seems to look fairly decent.

Any comparos between the Powerbronze and the MRA screens? I'm looking for more upperbody/head coverage. These two are the only touring options I've found for the FJ these days.

Cheers,
George

My FJ had the MRA screen when I bought it. Seeking more wind protection I bought and mounted the Powerbronze flip screen.  I would summarize the difference in protection/comfort as "not much".  I have to crouch to get into the pocket
with either screen.  In normal riding position the wind blast is about at the level of my eyebrows and eye protection is a must.

I think the adjustable lip on the MRA is a visual wart and the Powerbronze is a definite aesthetic improvement but neither are Interstate wonders.

IMHO, the FJ is a wonderful platform for a touring bike but the stock fairing and bars are suited to autobahn style rather than American highway style touring duty.

I'm considering a Quicksilver.

Test rode an 89 with an aftermarket screen, I think it was a PB but not sure. I'm 5'8" and it created a nice pocket for me. Is the Quicksilver another screen? Did you get the RPM risers?
Title: Re: Powerbronze windscreen
Post by: Arnie on May 12, 2014, 10:53:05 AM
I've not seen any commercial screen that's high enough to offer me wind protection, and I'm only 6'1.
I've made a couple versions of an extender that utilizes the "fins" of the late model screen to create a laminar flow which helps take the air up past my head, but its still 7" above the top lip of the "mailbox" screen.  And, while it does move the air up and over my head, if its raining I still get rain in my face.
Maybe someone should make a vinyl tent like the french have on some of their scooters :-)  Don't know how it would fare at FJ type velocities.

Here again is my solution - it works for me.

=======================================

The Quicksilver is a second (?) generation Windjammer, lighter than the original. Like me it is obsolete. Unlike me there are NOS items available at a very reasonable price.  It is a complete fairing, not just a windscreen. It's a pretty BFD to go that route since all the gauges and indicators on the FJ are in the fairing.  I'm thinking of fabbing up a mount for a lap top (GPS has a MPH readout) . . . so there's a bit of tinkering.  I'm sure this is all "blasphemous" to the true believers, but I'm thinkin' I can get near Goldwing comfort levels with very little compromise to the bike's sporting nature.  Sort of a cross between an Olds 98 and an RX-7.

I'm 6" more into the wind than I want to be already with the stock bars so the risers are not on my wish list.  I'm thinking the Olds 98 motif calls for 7/8" bars on rubber mounts.

BTW I just bought a top triple tree on Ebay for ten bucks SHIPPED.

Also made by Vetter, it was about a 2/3 scale fairing similar to the Windjammer, aimed at middleweight (400-500cc) bikes of the day.

Edit:  Upon looking, I happened to find this:  http://www.craigvetter.com/pages/vetter_fairings/interchangeability_of_part.html (http://www.craigvetter.com/pages/vetter_fairings/interchangeability_of_part.html)

Ok, I remember those-had a Windjammer on a beemer back in the 70s but I think I'll stick with a windscreen. Anyone tried a Laminar Lip on the stock screen? I use one on the Duc and it puts the wind at/over the top of my helmet but a good amount of wind hits the arms and shoulders. I like having the option to remove it in warmer weather tho.
