Hey Folks, Glenn, our new Canadian FJ owner posted this and I thought I would break it out into it's own topic for discussion.

P.S - need OEM brake hoses to finish government safety here in Canada. I will need to take off my braided lines for one day and swap them back after. Can anyone help, be willing to pay for the help.
Thanks everyone.
Glenn
Really?
Even thou many braided lines carry a DOT approval? (and many a TUV)
Yes, I know that DOT is a USA certification and TUV a EU certification, but still.... requiring 24 year old oem rubber brake lines, seems to me to be a step backwards...a major step backwards. :dash2:
I wonder what they're thinking?
Is this a one time requirement for inspection at time of title transfer, or will this be part of a annual inspection?
Is this the case in other parts of the world, or just Canada?
:hi: Pat...good catch buddy. Thread answered and pm sent to Glenn :good:
I've had aftermarket S S lines added to several different bikes over the years prior to a road safety cert'...no problem whatsoever here in Ontario, Canada. Different strokes for different folks I guess :scratch_one-s_head:
John.
Here because of the age of my FJ it requires an annual safety inspection. I can not imagine having to reinstall all the ABS junk back into the bike again. This would be a downgrade in the bikes breaking. Once again some government bureaucrat who knows nothing about what they are in charge of making decisions.

+1
No one cares more about your health and safety than YOU do...certainly not some government bureaucrat who works in the office of health and safety!
Cap'n Ron. . .
I agree, it's a stupid requirement, but the question remains, what juristrictions require oem brake lines?

I didn't find anything on the subject here: http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=571.122 (http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/rules-regulations/administration/fmcsr/fmcsrruletext.aspx?reg=571.122)
But, I
did doze off about halfway down... :morning2:
In Ontario Canada the safety inspection would NOT require removing the braided lines. The inspectors here are relatively easy going. Some garages give safety certificates that know nothing about bikes. Some garages don't even look at the side walls of tires or the date stamp. Sending uneducated riders out with unsafe bikes. My one cousins son had a garage safety a bike with 12 year old Bridgestone tires. They were complete crap. But off he went, thinking it was safe. Only after showing him the date stamp, and all the cracks in the sidewall did he decide to buy tires.
They check tread depth, lights, horn and brakes.
