Title: people, whatever you do, do not crash 3 weeks before an fj rally...
Post by: mst3kguy on August 31, 2013, 08:39:31 PM
low-sided on the highway last night, on-ramp from one highway to another.  got too cocky with my speed and hit gravel.  yes i'm fine, aerostich suit did its job.  slid down the interstate on my ass and hands starting at 40 mph or so.  then ran like hell to get off the highway.  i have _no_ injuries from the crash.  strike that.  i have a blister the size of a drop of water on my right hand.  and i think i jacked up my left elbow trying to get the fjr back on two wheels.  mirror broken, fairing rashed, delrin slider ground down, right bar end protector thing bent, right sidecase is toast, sidecase bracket is broken, and givi topcase is rashed but intact.  no engine damage, no frame damage that i can tell.  gotta do some quick fixes to be ready for tellico now!

if i could figure out how to insert pics i would.  stand by.

Sorry about the "event". Glad your gear worked and you are not hurt. The bike is fixable. It is just a bum feeling.

Sorry to hear about your fall, Dean... glad you're okay!

Does this mean you might resort to bringing an FJ to TPTN?         :unknown:

I am glad you're ok Dean. Your gear did it's duty and you bike sounds fixable.
Unlike our FJ's, at least you can parts for your FJR.
Heal up in time for Tellico.

I still have dreams of riding the Cherohala Skyway....

You were wearing the right gear at the right time...smart man!  I was only wearing *most* of the gear for my low side last Sunday and everywhere that was unprotected...is rashed or friction burned.  Glad you walked away from that...While I was sliding, I too was thinking, "Damn...I have to get my ass OUT of the road...ASAP!   :good:

FJ(R) parts can be ordered...the epidermis?  Not so much!

yeah, pretty much the prevailing thought while i was sliding was "holy shiite, i'm on my ass on a highway, i gotta get out of here".

i'll be ordering another hi-viz one-piece.  looking forward to the upgrades they've made.

Glad to hear you're okay! Man, you are really becoming a gear test mule.  Another stich sacrifices itself in your interest.  Do they give you discount after your fifth suit?

Let me know if you need any help running down parts.  I dont have a stockpile like I do for the FJ, tho.

Glad your gear saved you from losing some skin..............sucks about the slide though....
One thing's for sure, you've definately got some experience when it comes to pavement.........

At least you've got some time to mend the scraped up bits before the rally.............It could have been worse, and actually happened AT the rally......
I'm sure you'll be sore for a week or so. Heal fast! :drinks:

nope.  the blister i had on saturday has healed, and no other injuries or pain.  it really is amazing the difference between a lowside and a highside crash.

Have to agree with you Dean.  I've tried both and much prefer lowsides.

Glad you weren't injured. Now get that bike patched up for the rally!
