Introductions / There will be a talent gap bet...
Last post by luxurystorecc1 - Today at 01:26:10 AM
There will be a talent gap between the Jazz
Hopefully competitive ones. Utah is under no illusions that it will compete with the best in a loaded Western Conference. "We're going to have to win ugly, we're going to have to win close, we're going to have to have a lot of people have moments for us to win," says Hardy. Wins over the Clippers, Suns and Celtics offer a blueprint. There will be a talent gap between the Jazz and many of their opponents. A motivated Markkanen, though, will go a long way to help close it. Markkanen says he has not had a conversation with Utah's front office about his long-term future. Austin Ainge, the Jazz's new president of basketball operations, has said he is a "huge fan" of Markkanen and believes Markkanen can be part of Utah's eventual success. Markkanen says he has had a few conversations with Ainge but "just to pick his brain" on basketball. "When I came back from Europe," says Markkanen, "I feel like we got right back to work." As for his future with the team, Markkanen says, "We try to go day by day."

Maintenance / Re: High compression pistons
Last post by crazy88 - Yesterday at 05:45:21 PM
Yeeeea. Already have the valve seals cuz that was the whole reason I started the re build. Every single one was leaking a ton. And one of cylinder 3 valves wasn't sealing anymore. Now none of my valves are sealing except the exhaust ones on cyl 3....I believe I over lapped them. But yes that is my main concern in buying a used head, that the valves are gonna be fucked anyways. And the fact that I already had a hell of a time surfacing the original head , I really don't wanna mess with all that again. Might be my only choice tho lol.

Not sure on that one...Aviation Fred has experience with that style.
If you get too low, you foul the brake pedal.

This one looks ok

I agree with Red, sell those 12-1  Wiseco's.

On buying a used head I would plan on *at least* surfacing the gasket surface, installing new Viton valve seals and assuming the valves and seats are healthy, lapping the valves.

Beware on used FJ heads.
It's common to have leaky exhaust valves and/or valve seats due to tight valves from deferred maintenance.
If the head was overheated you may also need to line bore the cam journals.

I agree that's probably the most cost effective route. I found an 1100 head on eBay that looks in great shape for just under $300. Probably gonna go that way. Thanks for the input brother.

Crazy88,
Don't know about the ring thing. Can you get new rings from Weisco, for the resale?
As for valves, it seems like you can get a good used head, complete, for less money.  I would expect to lap in a few valves, maybe all, but still come out with less expense. You would probably need some new shims, though. RPM may have some help for you, for a good cylinder head.  They know people in the game.

Yea I'm kinda leaning that way tbh. I kinda bought them hastily off eBay cuz I thought they were a good price but didn't really do the research before hand. I've gone way over budget with my rebuild and I am probably gonna have to sink $500 on new valves yet. So I might just forgo the weiscos. Idk if I would be able to sell the pistons again because I already gapped the rings to my cylinders. That being the case would I possibly be able to use the weisco 77mm rings on the stock pistons?

Crazy88,

I would sell off those pistons, personally. The FJ is aged, and extra horsepower now could put too much stress on the old power train components. High compression requires high octane fuel, and if you are avoiding ethanol now, you might have to buy Avgas from the airports or the hotrod crew, which will probably include lead additives. The carbs may need new jets. For your fine FJ, I would simply say "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." YMMV.
